My vertical task bar won't stay the right size, that is, very thin.

I'm running Win7 Pro x64 on a laptop.  I have my taskbar set on the left side.  I have small icons enabled, but the taskbar retains it's large-icon size, so it's large enough for two small icons to be side-by-side.  On a few random occasions, it will be the small size I want it at, but even if I lock it, it goes back to being wide.  Any help?

Hi LoPan,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers.

We would like to get a better understanding of this issue so we can better assist not only you but other users with similar problems as well.

Did you make any changes to the system?

Method 1:

Follow the steps mentioned below.

1.      Right click on the taskbar.

2.      Select “Properties” and in “Task bar” tab check “Use small icons” and select “Never combine” in buttons section.

I would also suggest you to expand the task bar and check whether the issue persists.

Thank you and Regards.
