Answer
On the MS Win7 Compatability website, Quicken 2001 is not listed. However, Quiken 2009 is listed as requiring a paid for upgrade from the manufacturer. I'm guessing therefore that it isn't compatible.

I would contact Intuit directly to confirm.

Being a tight git, if it wer me, I would still try to install it (in comp mode) anyway to see if I could save myself the cost of an upgrade.   ;)

I expect that at the very least the help function won't work.  I installed Quicken 2005 and it worked as long as you don't need the help function.  There could well be other problems with the 2001 version, but like the other reply; I'd try it in compatibility mode and see if it'll do what you want.  Good luck.

You can try installing it in Compatibility mode, but it might result in some unexpected behaviour of the computer.
Please be sure before doing this

I don't understand what you mean by "Quiken 2009 is listed as
requiring a paid for upgrade from the manufacturer ," but I can tell
you that Quicken 2009 runs just fine under Windows 7, and no upgrade
is required.

Ken - I suggest you look on the MS Compatibilty site, "Action Required - Get Paid Upgrade" is one of the standard answers.

I have Quicken 5 running just fine on Win 7 Home Ed 64 bit. I also downloaded and installed the five patches for it which you can get from the Intuit web site. I just installed it normally, does not use compatibility mode at all.

As far as the "Help" screen issues, there is a microsoft KB article that includes a fix for that with both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions. Check on Ms KB article KB917607 using Google. There is a patch that makes the help files for old programs work with Vista and Win 7.

I have the UK version of Quicken 2001.  I tested it with the RC version of Windows 64 and it seemed to work OK.  I now have it working with Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit.

The way I did it was this:

I logged on to my administrator account.
Ran the Quicken CD install as normal.  Mine always want to install to the root directory of the Windows drive, so I have to edit that to put the Quicken folder in the Programmes folder.  In 64 bit there seem to be 2 programme folders, Programmes 64 and Programmes 86.  Put in the 86 one if you have the choice (it seems to be where Win7 puts 32 bit programmes by default)
The installation happened with no hiccups.
Once it is installed, whilst still on administrator account, navigate to the Quicken programme folder, then in properties set the permissions to full control or modify or write access (whichever you feel comfortable with) for whichever users account you will be using the programmes within.  (You need to do this as Quicken saves its data within the programme file.  If you try to run it as user you will not have permission to modify the date files).
As this is a new installation, Quciken will keep asking you to register.  There is a hack to turn this off, which you should be able to find through google.
You can access the help file using the procedure detailed by Fred S.  It worked for me.

I ummed and ahhed about this for ages (I've got 18 years of data!) but for me it worked out very simple in the end.

My question is not related to the previous one but this is the only forum i could find that speaks about quicken 2001 in the year 2010, so I hope I might get an answer, as it is a probably a relatively simple answer for some.

In the investing section of Quicken one can make a graph of one's holdings.  When I ask for said graph, I get it broken up into, first of all, the top ten holdings and their percentage, then the next ten holdings ( and their percentage, but not of the total but rather the percentage they occupy of their own ten).

All I really want to know is what percentage ( of the whole) each stock represents.  I'd appreciate any help,
Gouthro

Is Quicken 2001 compatible with Windows 7?
I recently installed Quicken 2001 on my Win7 64-bit computer.  Installed it from the original CD, then ran r3hb.exe to install Quicken's SP3 for this version of Quicken.  Pointed it to my data files on my separate data drive & set up my printer.  It seems to run fine so far.  - Bill

Today is December 22, 2010.  I just received a new computer with Windows 7 yesterday.  After the initial startup of the computer I attempted to load Quicken 2001 from the original disk and was not successful.  I even messed around with the compatability function and it still did not work.  Intuit is convinced it will not work as they stated this in an email to me.

After reading this website today I came home from work and installed the startup disk into the player and attempted to load it again.  This time the computer recognized the exe file and it loaded perfectly.  The only difference from yesterday was that the computer was restarted several times.  I was logged in as administrator both times.

I went to the file menu and restored from my backup file and it is running perfectly.  I am glad I perserved and found this website that encouraged to keep trying.

Intuit is only interested in selling new software.  Imagine that!
