Question

disappearing control panel

I am very new to Windows 7 (so far I hate it), i am trying to get my control panel on screen. When I select Control Panel from either the toolbar or the start menu, the icon appears on the tool bar as if it were on my desktop, however nothing is there. I try to select the control panel from the tool bar and I see it "swoosh" to the right of my screen and it disappears. I have looked over many posts and cannot seem to find the answer. This is the best way to describe what is happening. Please Help!!!!!

Answer

Hi ,

1. Log on to Windows with a user account that has Administrator privileges.
2.  Click on start orb and type in gpeditmsc  in the search box and press enter.
3.  Navigate to the Local Computer Policy -> User Configuration -> Administrative Templates ->All settings.

4. Now right click on prohibit access to control panel and click on edit.

5. If it is enable, click on disabled.

6. Click on Apply and then click Ok.

You may also boot into safe mode and checkk if you can access control panel.

Steps to boot to Safe mode

1.     Restart your computer if it is powered on.
2.     Tap the F8 key after your computer initially powers on.
3.     Once you see the Advanced Boot Options menu you can stop tapping.
4.     Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.
5.     Select Safe Mode and press Enter.
6.     You should see drivers loading, and then Please wait.
7.     You should then be at the Welcome Screen.
8.     Logon to your computer using an account with Administrator privileges.

Start your computer in safe mode:

If that doesn’t work, then check in a new user account.

Follow the steps mentioned below to create a new user account.

To create a new profile, you must first create a new user account. When the account is created, a profile will also be created.

1. Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety (or clicking User Accounts, if you
are connected to a network domain) and then clicking
User Accounts.
2. Click Manage another account.
3. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
4. Click Create a new account.
5. Type the name you want to give the user account, click an account type and then click Create Account.

Create a user account:

If it works in a new user account then you need to fix the corrupt user profile. You may visit this link for the steps:
