Windows 10 supports maximum memory configurations that were formerly available only in the realm of servers. Windows 10 Home supports up to 128GB of RAM on the x64 platform. Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise both support up to 512GB on the x64 platform. The x86 versions of Windows 10 support a maximum of 4GB of RAM. Windows 10 supports a maximum of two physical CPUs, but the number of logical processors or cores varies based on the processor architecture. A maximum of 32 cores is supported in 32-bit versions of Windows 8, whereas up to 256 cores are supported in the 64-bit versions.

"Windows 10 supports a maximum of two physical CPUs"

what... ???! Even Linux and MacOSX support more than 2 physical CPUs.. it's wierd that

if you want to do some serious rendering, or simulations, you should move to

Linux or MacOSX ..?  No wonder windows is going down :(

"Windows 10 supports a maximum of two physical CPUs" - does it mean the Windows 10 home support 2 physical CPUs, or is it like with Windows 7 and 8, where Home only supported 1 physical CPU?

Thanks for the clarification.

Do both the Pro and Home edition have the ability to run on two physical processors?

With my Win 8 home edition only one physical processor is recognized.

Thanks in advance,

Thomas

Physical CPUs, not cores. Even the most expensive workstations today come with max 2 CPUs, that they're 10 cores and 20 threads each is no problem for w10. If you want more heavy duty rendering you'll need a server (with matching server OS that support >4 CPUs) and dedicated computing GPUs in a server rack somewhere.

As far as I'm aware Windows Home 10 will only recognise one processor.

I recently installed Windows 10 Home to a dual CPU system and only a single processor was recognised. I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro and now both are recognised.

You answered how many cores are supported in Windows 8 but the question was Windows 10.  I'm getting ready to buy a new home server, planning on dual 10-core xeons and want to make sure it will work before I order.

Googling hasn't yielded any definitive statement from Microsoft on W10 CPU options.  Can anyone link an actual Microsoft statement for Windows 10 Pro x64?
