DreamSpark Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro upgrade to Windows 10

Hello,

I have Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro with Update installed on my PC for over a year now. I acquired it via DreamSpark (I am a student of an Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences). The Windows 10 reservation prompt icon still hasn't appeared in the tray of my system, so I would like to know will the users of the Embedded Industry Pro with Update get the free upgrade to Windows 10, as it is a full Windows 8.1 Pro with Update with Embedded features?

Hello DinoZoomZoom,

You can upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 Embedded Industry Pro manually using this method:

(Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/comments/388e3y/cannot_find_the_kb3035583_update_on_windows_7/crw3v60 )

After performing this, the Windows 10 upgrade icon appears in the taskbar, and you are able to reserve your upgrade.

EDIT: Since it turns out that everyone is having issues upgrading this way, I figured I'd post the alternative upgrade route. Note: You are required to have a Microsoft account which is a member of the Windows insider program before beginning this. Install the Windows 10 Technical Preview build 10130, login, and activate with the generic key "6P99N-YF42M-TPGBG-9VMJP-YKHCF". Then, use the upgrade tool to create upgrade media, and insert it into the computer with the 10130 installation. Use the upgrade option, and you will end up receiving a genuine machine-locked license for Windows 10 Pro. That edition does not qualify:

What edition of Windows will I get as part of this free upgrade?

When you upgrade, you’ll stay on like-to-like editions of Windows. For example, Windows 7 Home Premium will upgrade to Windows 10 Home.

Windows 7*

From Edition To Edition
Windows 7 Starter Windows 10 Home
Windows 7 Home Basic
Windows 7 Home Premium
Windows 7 Professional Windows 10 Pro
Windows 7 Ultimate

Windows 8**

From Edition To Edition
Windows Phone 8.1**** Windows 10 Mobile
Windows 8.1*** Windows 10 Home
Windows 8.1 Pro Windows 10 Pro
Windows 8.1 Pro for Students

*Must be running the latest version of Windows 7 (Service Pack 1) to receive the free upgrade to Windows 10 via Windows Update.

**Must be running the latest version of Windows 8 (Windows 8.1 Update) to receive the free upgrade to Windows 10 via Windows Update.

*** Also applies to Windows 8.1 country specific editions, Windows 8.1 Single Language, Windows 8.1 with Bing.

****The availability of Windows 10 upgrade for Windows Phone 8.1 devices may vary by OEM, mobile operator or carrier.

“N” and “KN” editions follow the upgrade path of the parent edition (e.g., Windows 7 Professional N upgrades to Windows 10 Pro).

Some editions are excluded: Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1. Active Software Assurance customers in volume licensing have the benefit to upgrade to Windows 10 enterprise offerings outside of this offer.
