"Something happened 0x80070002-0xA0019" received when attempting to create Win 10 USB drive

Windows 10 from Win 7 update (through Windows update) failed multiple times. Tried to create USB drive to update instead. Received:  "Something happened 0x80070002-0xA0019" error code. This one doesn't seem to exist anywhere on Microsoft's Website or anyone else's for that matter. The Web is silent on this one. Anyone who can help will be my new best friend. Well a good friend at least. Thanks all.

Hi,

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I understand your concern and will assist you to resolve this issue.

The error code 0x80070002-0xA0019 might occur when there is problem with your USB device or may be some file got corrupted while downloading.

I suggest you to place your computer in clean boot state and download the Media creation tool to install windows 10 and try creating bootable DVD for Windows 10 and check if it helps.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install

 Perform a clean boot.

A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program in Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista. You may also troubleshoot or determine what conflict is causing the problem by performing a clean boot.

Notes

  • You must log on to the computer as an administrator to be able to perform a clean boot.

  • Your computer may temporarily lose some functionality when you perform a clean boot. When you start the computer normally, the functionality returns. However, you may receive the original error message, or experience the original behavior if the problem still exists.

  • If the computer is connected to a network, network policy settings may prevent you from following these steps. We strongly recommend that you do not use the System Configuration utility to change the advanced boot options on the computer unless a Microsoft support engineer directs you to do this. Doing this may make the computer unusable.

I suggest you to try the steps provided, in the link below in order to perform a clean boot on your computer.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

Hope it helps. Keep us posted if you face any issues related to Windows in future. We will be glad to help you.

Thank you

I cannot create boot media with either option. I've downloaded the ISO several times and tried both USD and DVD. I get the same error as the OP trying to create the media via USB, and with DVD it fails the validation check with error code 0x80004005.

This would seem to be a really straight-forward exercise... why is it so riddled with problems? I have not had any other issues with the machine I am trying to make the boot media from.

If you are trying to create an ISO image of Windows 10 on a USB stick then the Microsoft Tool can fail if the sharing attributes for the USB stick are not set correctly before you start. I got exactly this error message. This is the fix that worked for me:

  • Format the USB drive as FAT 32 (usually the default). [*** Warning *** This wipes all existing data on the USB drive.]
  • Find the drive in This PC and right click for the Properties dialogue
  • Select the Sharing tab and hit the Advanced Sharing button
  • Tick Share this Folder
  • Hit the Permission button
  • Highlight Everyone and tick Full Control
  • Exits the Properties dialogue using OK and Close
  • Immediately download and run the Microsoft tool

Hope that helps.

Or...

Right click on "MediaCreationTool.exe",
select "run as Administrator".

This works for me. :)

I agree. I also keep getting the same error. I repartitioned the flash drive. I ran the Microsoft tool as Administrator. I've never had to set a USB drive's sharing properties to use it. Unfortunately, Microsoft typically refuses to acknowledge a problem and has users go through all sorts of gyrations to get a simple task accomplished. And, it's always the user's fault. I finally gave up and am resetting the problem computer with a USB stick I prepared with this computer months ago, bypassing the Microsoft tool.
