Windows 10 won't shut down properly on ASUS N56V

I have just upgraded my ASUS N56VZ to Win10 from 8.1 and discovered that shutdown and hibernation do not work properly any more. When I press shut down, the laptop shows the shutdown screen briefly (much more briefly than with Win8.1), when I press hibernate it does not show anything at all. Then in both cases the display goes off and, after a few seconds, the laptop goes entirely off.

But when I try to turn it back on, the ASUS screen shows for a couple of seconds and the computer goes off. At the following attempt the computer then turns on correctly, but it takes longer then needed, similarly as with a restart, presumably because meanwhile it has lost the data saved from the previous session.

Does anybody have a similar issue?

Hi Antonio,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Use the hardware troubleshooter to fix the issue.

The Hardware Troubleshooter is an automated tool which will check the hardware connected to the computer for any known issues with it and provides the details and on how to fix them. Follow these steps and run the troubleshooter. Follow these steps:

  1. Press Windows key to get the Start menu.
  2. Type Troubleshooting in the search box right up corner and hit enter.
  3. Click on Troubleshooting tab.
  4. Click on view all option on the upper left corner.
  5. Select the power options from the list.
  6. Click Next to run the power Troubleshooter.

Method 2: Also I suggest you to create a new power plan and check if it helps.

  1. Go to control panel and then click on power options.
  2. Then click on create new power plan.
  3. Change the power plan accordingly and check.

Hope this information was helpful and do let us know if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.

I did both, and I even uninstalled Power4Gear supplied by ASUS. Neither action had any effect.

Eventually I discovered that I has some integrity issues that sfc /scannow could not fix, and neither could DISM (which didn't work at all). So I resolved to restore my laptop's factory settings with Windows 8, aiming to install Windows 10 again. Too bad that you cannot upgrade to Windows 10 if you haven't upgraded already to Windows 8.1, and you cannot upgrade to Windows 8.1 if you haven't installed all the previous updates to Win8, and you can't install 180 updates altogether at the same time because the configuration of the updates crashes. I wanted to upgrade to Win10 while my laptop was as clean as possible, but I see that this is impossible. I give up and wait for updates to occur naturally while I use my laptop.

So shame on you, Microsoft. You never had me so frustrated.

This is how I fixed mine.

Go to Control Panel > click on> System and security

Then click> System > Click on> Device Manager

Then Click on >System Devices >Click on> Intel(R) Management Engine interface

on the appearing interface, Click on> Driver. If your version is above 10.. (often 11.0.0.1155 and above)

Then Click on > Roll back Driver > This will return your driver to the previously installed version (9.0.0 etc)

Click> Ok and your computer will start shutting down normally.

The problem is with Intel.
