Taskbar not working

Hi,

I'm having an issue with the start menu, task bar, and task manager.

I don't know what is the issue, usually at the start up the task bar icon will show up but now it does not even show up.

Even worse every time I move my cursor to the taskbar the cursor changes into like loading state.

Everything works fine such as opening my computer, playing video, opening chrome via the program files.

But it does not show up in the taskbar.

Every time I shutdown or restart it takes a long time to execute it and I tend to forced shutdown it.

Can you please give me some advice what to do?

Thanks

Hi Liam,

One of the possible reasons why Start Menu, Taskbar, and Task Manager is not showing is due to software conflicts. To resolve your issue, we recommend that you perform a clean boot. This will help eliminate software conflicts that may have occurred when you updated Windows. To perform a clean boot, follow the steps on this link.

Let us know how that turned out for you.

I tried Method 3 but after closing the PowerShell when I tried to delete the file from the said location there was no folder under the name ( here my user is Gautam ).i.e C:/Users/Gautam/AppData
there is NO folder named AppData.

However, under another user named Admin~1, there exist the above-mentioned path but the TileDataLayer folder is missing

Hi,

The appdata folder might be hidden. To open the appdata folder, kindly press Windows key + R, then type %appdata%. Follow the steps in Method 3 again, and check if the issue persists.

We look forward to your response.

I was able to locate the folder but not delete it entirely. 3 or 4 files with the extension .txt could not be deleted as it was said that it was used by some repository service.

Since you were unable to rename (or delete) the TileDataLayer folder due to files being used by the State Repository Service, we recommend that you follow the steps below.

  1. Use Ctrl-Shift-Esc to open Task Manager, and in the Processes tab find the appmodel entry under Windows processes (click on the Name column heading at the top to sort processes by name - the Windows processes will be towards the bottom).
  2. Expand to show the 2 entries it comprises - State Repository Service and Tile Data model server.
  3. Select each of the two in turn and choose End Process (don't do this on the appmodel entry itself, it won't let you do that without choosing to shut down). You may need to wait some time for the processes to end - you may also find that they disappear and then reappear. I had to make several attempts.
  4. Rename the TileDataLayer folder (eventually it allowed me to do so).
  5. Clicking on the Windows icon in the taskbar brings up a Start Menu, (but of course a pristine one without your saved entries). It also creates a new TileDataLayer folder (as expected).
  6. Repeat step 5 (A-E) with all workarounds as above in order to rename the newly created folder and then rename the original back to its original name. At that point, the problem should be fixed and you'll have your original Start menu with all its original contents back.

Check if the resolves the issue.

Regards.

After step 3, i.e stopping those two processes under appmodel, should I actually delete the WindowsTile folder or rename it? As far as the original answer that you had given to the question is concerned you had said to delete the folder after that command was executed in PowerShell ( administrator)

Since it was advised in the original solution posted that you need to delete the WindowsTile, we recommend that you follow the original steps provided.
