Windows 10 keeps dropping my Wifi signal

I've updated to Windows 10 and I keep losing my Wifi signal. None of the other devices in my home are having this problem. I need to reset my router for it to come back. I can see 10 other near-by networks and even my TV's wifi but my home network system goes missing until I reboot the router. It has happened 3 times in the last 12 hours.

Me too. The wifi reset is the only fix I can find.

No one at Microsoft seems to be able to resolve this issue. I'll try one last post to see if anyone has a solution. If not, guess I should give up on Windows 10 and go back to Windows 7.

Issue

I installed windows 10 (upgrade from Windows 7) July 30 on my PC. The first day it seemed fine, but since then, I frequently drop my internet connection. This can be every five minutes or stay going for an hour or more. The drop seems to be connected to viewing of videos, but not always.

  • The disconnect happens most frequently when viewing video clips, but sometimes just viewing a page.

  • This PC is connected to the modem via Ethernet cable. My other devices that connect via blue tooth and are not upgraded to Windows 10 continue to function normally.

  • When the connection drops, I go to the network connection. The message says “There is currently no home group on the network.” After selecting Trouble Shoot Network Problems, it comes back with:

    • The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken - Detected

    • The default gateway is not available – Fixed

Voila! It is again operational until the next time – generally sooner than later.

Things I’ve done.

  • I had the GeekSquad go through it to be sure I had all the necessary updates. They thought it looked like a network software update issue.

  • I’ve disconnected the modem and router to reset everything, following prescribe procedures.

  • I’ve worked with four different Microsoft support technicians through their chat sessions. The first connected to the PC and after his analysis, decided it was in power management. He modified that and said that should solve the problem. It didn’t. The second performed a system scan finding no integrity violations. He initiated another process and at some point lost the connection. He didn’t call back (they all ask for your name and phone number at the beginning of the conversation). I reconnected and got a third person and I think she was a little lost. She looked at some things and inadvertently disabled the network adapter, disconnecting us. She did call back that time. Then she looked at other stuff and we lost the connection, and she didn’t bother calling back. The 4th attempt, I gave the initial details including phone number, and lost that connection. So I guess I’ve given up on that aspect.

  • I took the PC to Best Buy GeekSquad where we performed a quick analysis, including connecting to the Internet and watching several video clips on youtube.   No problems there, but they needed 7-10 days in cue to perform a more thorough analysis.

Arris TM 822 modem

Not only did it mess with my WIFI, it started not playing youtube vids at all, wouldn't play itunes, any mp3 at all, uninstalled Windows 10, not worth the issues.  It also stopped my web cam, after 140.00 with Dell tech got that fixed, so needless to say the upgrade wasn't free!

Is anyone from the Microsoft community out there knowledgeable about this issue? 54 people have looked at it, but the only ones commenting are those having the problems. Should we be posting our problem in another area?

Now I suspect the wireless driver is direct related to this matter. Since I'm having connection difficulty to the office wireless router, all the other place works just fine. I'm also losing Bluetooth connection to other devices after updated to windows 10. My laptop is Elitebook 840 from HP, it uses the same wireless chip Intel AC7260 for both Bluetooth & wifi connection. I found that Intel has some problem in update its driver since the latest build Aug 6 has been removed from download page right after posting. Can't rely this matter on HP since they stuck with older version of driver, no sight of fresh update.

It's now a big problem to me this OS update, apart from wifi at work matter, I can't play audio & video on Edge browser and local storage due to the sound cracking badly, only heavy noise coming out. Very very dissapointed!

after 9 days working with Microsoft and a bunch of other people to discover what's causing the device to drop the internet connection, I gave up and reverted to Windows 7. Voila! Everything works as it's supposed to. I'm now not having any problems with my Internet connection.

I liked what I saw with Windows 10, but I wasn't able to keep any Internet connection in the end. But as soon as it came back to Windows 7, everything seemed to be cured. Maybe I'll try it again in a few months. Or a few years.

This is me to a T.  Performed the update from 7 to 10 but on the second day it keeps dropping connection to the router so I am tethered to my phone writing this.  I suspect the problem is the Ralink driver as it was last updated in May, ie, now the problems surface.  Come on MS.  I don't want to have to go Apple but you are sending me that way!

Yep this keeps happening to me too.  Went and bought a new wifi adapter sinceWindows said that my item had malfunctioned.  One page will load, then the next one will say I have a connection problem.  I keep resetting my system.  Our other computer is showing no signs of a problem and my husband is learning to deal with Windows 10.  IF If I could get this to work I might just learn to be happy about it, but I hate constantly resetting my wifi.  So far I give windows 10 about a 3 out of 10 rating.  Very frustrating.
