Lenovo x220 sound problems, windows 10

Hey guys! Sorry if this has been answered however, I've been searching all afternoon and have yet to find anything definite.

Just installed windows 10 on my thinkpad x220. Unfortunately, now the sound is skipping/scratching every few seconds. Sounds as if my machine is out of resources and struggling to continue playing sound. I'm hoping that's not the case (80gb free, 4gb ram). I've reinstalled the drivers, updated to the newest drivers posted on Lenovo's website, and also used the Lenovo update utility to go to the latest drivers. Same problem, every time.

Anyone else having this issue?

Hi Michael,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

It looks like you did not have any audio problems before upgrading. I suggest you to install the audio drivers for previous version of windows in Compatibility mode of that version on Windows 10.

Try the following steps:

  • Download the drivers, right click on them
  • Click on Properties, select compatibility tab
  • Check the option "Run this program in Compatibility of"
  • Select the version of windows that was previously installed on the computer.
  • Click Apply and OK.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

I have the same issue, NO sound. the only workaround is to attach a blue tooth speaker, the headset, PC speakers and event the audio jack on the docking station won't work.

One thing I noticed with this issue is that my audio works with build version 10240 but if I upgrade to a more current build it breaks the audio.  Try and see if you can either downgrade back to this build or upgrade to it depending on your current build version.

Use "Win Key + R" to pull up run prompt and type in "winver" to check version/build

Thanks
