Windows 10 touch keyboard doesn't dock

I tried to find this answer by myself for 3 hours, but I failed.  I need some help.

While I was using Windows 8 touch keyboard, I can click the maximize button from the touch keyboard, which makes the keyboard dock at the bottom of the screen (not hover).  In this case, I can see the whole maximized program window from top to bottom (iexplorer, notepad, chrome, anything!) above the touch keyboard.

But, Windows 10 touch keyboard doesn't dock at the bottom.  It looks like it is located at the bottom of the screen but actually it is located over the programs.  I can't see the bottom contents because it is covered by touch keyboard.

Is there any option I can choose to change? or bug? or need to find other touch or virtual keyboard.
If it is not working, I need to go back to windows 8.

Please help me!

It's been two days and nobody response.

I know you MS guys are so busy to check every blog, but I can't believe no one answer this.

I tried some 3rd party virtual keyboard but all of them don't dock at the bottom of the screen.

Should I go back to Win8?

I am very frustrated with this as well. I did find a temporary solution, but an annoying one.

It only seems to dock in tablet mode. If you change to tablet mode, it will dock and allow you to work, and then you can change back when finished.

This is clunky and not productive at all. I hope they fix it soon.

Thanks Dan, but I think you misunderstood what the situation is.

What I mean by 'Doesn't Duck at the bottom' is that the touch keyboard works like the another program so it does not hover on the other program.

At Windows 8, when you click maximize the touch keyboard, you still can see the bottom contents of the program which is located above the touch keyboard. But at this Windows 10, the touch keyboard is hover on the program and it blocks anything under the touch keyboard.

But anyway I have tried with tablet mode.

I have tried to use MS Edge with tablet mode and surprisingly it works.

I have tried to use iExplorer (executing from Edge) with tablet mode and it doesn't work.

I have tried to use Calendar (from windows 10) with tablet mode and it doesn't work.

I have tried to use file explorer with tablet mode and it doesn't work.

I have tried to use notepad (simple notepad from window) with tablet mode and it doesn't work.

Don't know what else I can do.

I'm having the same issue. It's very anoying.

It feels like a huge step backwards.  Win 7 was great. even XP was good. 10 is useless.

Also, you can't resize the floating keyboard. The handwriting input only offers one line, and doesn't expand while you write.

Why would they remove the functionality that was so useful in previous versions!?

I don't really think MS community can help us.

Microsoft just doesn't care about this. I can't for my life understand how it can go months without this problem getting fixed! I understand exactly what you mean. I have the Surface Pro 3 and use the on screen keyboard all the time and it's really a show stopper for me! I have to go back to 8.1 where the keyboard doesn't hide the stuff you have on screen. Try to use a terminal program like putty or anything else, the keyboard in windows 10 pops up ON TOP so you can't see what you are writing in the current app. You have two options. Undock and move the keyboard or re-size the frikking app window to be able to see the full app window and content. The problem is that you have to do this EVERY TIME!

How is it possible to completely disregard and ignore this problem?! It doesn't matter if you use the stupid tablet mode either.

Also, they moved the selection to hide the keyboard. In 8.1 you could just double klick the keyboard button and the keyboard goes away. This is just a small issue and you have to move your finger to the "X" but... yeah. Let's make Windows a pain to use on our own hardware like Surfaces....

I have sent feedback about this several times from the very first preview version but... no.

Yeah tablet mode is useless, their priority was definitely desktop users this time around, hopefully they catch up and get the surface working to its potential. I have adjusted more or less to the "floating" keyboard that I move around the screen as necessary. I prefer the docking option but this works ok, and it auto hides nicely.

I think this must have been a design decision, to push developers to design universal apps with infinite scroll. This makes sense in the context of universal apps but unfortunately sucks for people like us who use legacy apps like putty or other desktop software.

However on my surface putty does resize for the docked keyboard, as long as the window is not maximized.
