Windows 8.1 install - unable to create ramdisk - 0xc1900101-0x20017

When I attempt to install Windows 8.1 on my machine from the Windows Store, on boot I receive a blue screen. The error message indicates that the system was unable to create a ramdisk and shows error number 0xc1900101.

On reboot, it restores my original installation and provides the following error code: 0xc1900101-0x20017.

In reading some other topics, it seems drivers may need to be updated, but as far as I know I am up-to-date. Is there a way to identify which driver had a failure?

Also, on other threads with this code, I see no mention of a "ramdisk". Is that a unique problem?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Edit: Let me note my system has no ramdisk software installed whatsoever.

Hi Termic,

This is caused by a driver bug check during boot. Make sure all drivers have been updated.

I would suggest you to update the all driver and check.

I would also suggest you to check Private Message for more information.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance, we’ll be glad to assist you.

"....I would suggest you to update the all driver and check....."

Did a full update, as I was missing the KB to see upgrade option in store.

Same problem, install appears to work, requests reboot and after reboot get same message with recovery screen.  Update rolls itself back and Windows 8 loads.

This is using dual-boot partition of Windows 8 and Windows 7 64 bit.

Checking the update log it keeps referring to this failure:

2013-10-18 23:17:24:447 524 b48 Report REPORT EVENT: {1BD27D22-671F-4B62-8D37-8965A190C2E3} 2013-10-18 23:17:24:353+0100 1 204 [AGENT_INSTALLING_FAILED_POST_REBOOT] 101 {4B0CE879-D94C-4D6D-AAEA-43CC722D6D02} 1 c1900101 WSAcquisition Failure Content Install Installation Failure Post Reboot.

So I assume the update is trying to do something at reboot level and BIOS is causing a problem?

I have the same issue. No partitioning, no encryption, drivers up to date, all Windows 8 Pro updates applied. The only issue I can imagine is my BIOS somehow? Updating from Windows 7 to Windows 8 was a dream, so the 8.1 install errors make no sense to me.

It's weird, I keep seeing people with SSDs having this issue, I however only have oldschool HDDs, 8gigs of ram, all drivers up to date, tons of HDD space...  Same as Regin, upgrading from XP to 8 was gloriously easy, 8.1 is just broken...

Thanks everyone for including your information on this issue. I think it's affecting quite a few folks based on what I've seen.

To Microsoft - is there a way to identify what specific driver caused the failure? Otherwise it's really a needle-in-a-haystack situation to try to identify the cause. If we could identify that, we could simply fully uninstall the device, perform the upgrade, and then go from there.

Is it possible to create update media on a thumb drive or disk? I have the same problem. Maybe that would help bypass the error.

Same problem here (2 Gb memory )

But with my technet subscription i downloaded the iso file and installed from dvd

without any problems. ( pro with mediacenter and antivirus shut off )

Then my Belkin n600 usb wifi stick did not work anymore, after a driver update from that

site this problem was also resolved.

So here everything now ok.

Greetings
