Original Title: How to system restore windows 8 with bootcamp?
Is there a way to use system restore or refresh for windows 8 partition of bookcamp? I’m using a MacBook pro with bootcamp and my windows 8 partition needs repair. I can't get into windows. I'm stuck
in a recovery loop where when I press F8, it doesn't do anything and the screen just flashes. What I'm trying to figure out is if there is any way to system restore or refresh my windows partiton with my original windows install disk? If not, is there any
way I can get my files off of the partition? I really don't want to lose my Windows data.

Hi EliteSocksDom,
The Blue Screen errors occurs when a serious problem causes Windows 8 to shut down or restart unexpectedly. There are multiple reasons why this type of errors occurs on the computer. They usually happen when there are some driver issues in the computer. However, it might also be due to some other software/hardware reasons.
In this case, the error code: 0xc0000001 indicates that there might be some issues with the booting device or some booting files are corrupted. It might also happen if some problem happens with the boot sector of the computer.
Did you make any changes to the computer prior to this issue?
Please follow the methods mentioned below:
Method 1:
I would suggest you to un-plug all external devices, except the keyboard and mouse, then try to boot the computer.
Method 2:
I would suggest you to try performing Startup Repair using Windows 8 installation media from Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and check.
To perform Startup repair on your computer, follow these steps:
a. Insert the media such as (USB or DVD) and restart your computer.
b. Press F12 key (typically this is F12, but it can differ between computer manufacturers) and choose the drive that you inserted the installation media into.

e. You will then see a blue screen and an option to choose. Choose the option Troubleshoot and select advanced options.
f. You may choose StartupRepair from Advanced boot option.
g. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Startup Repair.
Method 3: If automatic repair fails, you may try to repair them using these commands through Command Prompt under Advanced Options. Follow the steps:
a. After you boot your computer using
Windows 8 installation media, a black screen appears with gray text
Press any key to boot from CD or DVD. Press any key.
b) Select the correct time and Keyboard type.
c) Click Repair your computer in the lower left corner.
d) Select Troubleshoot from Choose an option
screen.
e) Click Advanced options in Troubleshoot screen.
f) Click on command Prompt.
g) Type these following commands and hit enter after each line of command:
Bootrec /fixmbr

I tried all the methods listed above and I have had no success. When I tried method 2, and try system restore in the troubleshoot options, I get a message saying the "drive where windows is installed is locked".
And when I tried method 3 the command prompt stated that "the number of windows installations found:0"
Both times I have restarted my computer and it's still stuck in the recovery loop. I feel like the recovery options are not seeing my windows 8.1 partition. Are there any other solutions?

Hi Yakub,
I have gotten the same error on my Asus vivobook. Few days ago, the notebook froze while working and my wife did a cold start. Since then, the laptop stalls during boot and I get this error. I have tried Methods 2 and 3 that you mention below. But it did not work. I created a windows installation USB drive (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media)
Can I use that for a custom: Install windows only (advanced) option. Also, would be of any help if I format the primary drive to allow for a clean windows install? Will I need a windows key? I called Asus customer support, but they cannot provide me the key saying "the key is built into the firmware".
Anything else that I can try to troubleshoot/fix this?
Thanks!

Hello Dhuru,
Thank you for the response.
I appreciate your efforts.
In both clean install and custom install, you need a product key to activate Windows.
You may use USB installation media for custom installation.
However, I highly recommend backing up all of your important files and folders onto an external storage
device before attempting any type of operating system repair, upgrade or reinstallation.
Thank you
