Error code: 0xc000000f - File: \WINDOWS\System32\drivers\ASPI.sys

Sir,

I have a ASUS K55VM laptop and is loaded with Windows 8.1.  I installed Malware bytes Anti Malware yesterday. Had avast anti virus which was uninstalled and activated 'windows defender'. The laptop worked for a day and crashed. I am trying to start it.  It says

"RECOVERY, Your PC needs to be repaired.  The operating system could not be loaded because a critical system driver is missing or contains error.

  File: \WINDOWS\System32\drivers\ASPI.sys

  Error code: 0xc000000f

choose one of the options below to address the problem. (a) Press Esc for recovery (b) Press enter to try again (c) Press F8 for start up settings (d) Press F9 to use a different operating system."

None working to resolve the issue.

After pressing F8, When I go to recovery environment by pressing F10/1, I get,

Choose an option (a) Continue  - Exit and continue to Windows 8.1 - did not resolve the problem  b) Troubleshoot - Refresh or reset your PC, or use advanced tools.  When I troubleshoot I get three options - i) Refresh your PC, if your PC is not running well, you can refresh it without loosing files - did not resolve the problem (ii) Reset your PC, if you want to remove all of your files, you can reset your PC completely - This asks, Insert your Installation or recovery media to continue.  I do not have Installation or recovery media. I do not want to remove any of my files. (iii)  Advanced Options - when I get in, it has(aa) 'System Recovery' (not working), (ab)'System Image recovery' (not working), (ac) Startup Repair 'Fix problems that keeps windows from loading' (not working)

(ad) Command Prompt - Use the command prompt for advanced trouble shooting - I am getting command prompt - but I do not know what to type. I am just a novice and can use a PC for home/office work only.

(iv) Start-up settings - Change windows start up behavior (none works).

Kindly help me to resolve the issue.  Thanks.

Sekar Subramaniam.

Hi Sekar,

I can imagine the inconvenience you are experiencing at this moment.

First of all, we need a Windows 8.1 media to fix the issue as the computer is not booting. So, you can download Windows 8.1 and make a USB drive as a bootable media and then start the Windows Recovery Environment using that.

You will not loose any files that are saved in the computer if you perform System Restore to fix the issue. Only the programs and updates that you installed will get uninstalled.

Hope this helps.
