Hi i tried the steps.. i ran the troubleshooter and downloaded both audio and chset drivers however still the volume is low.

One thing to note is... when i uninstalled the windows 8.1 update 1 my keyboard sounds went back to normal. I believe the issue is with the update itself on the device.

Is there any registry tweak or hotfix that can solve the issue. i do not want to miss out any update from microsoft the device.

Please help !!!

I have similar problem with the op too. I am running win 8.1 pro on Acer w700.

I have wiped, formatted and clean installed windows many times and updates all drivers including audio and graphics....but problem still persist.

If I go back to 8.1 without the big recent updates kb2919355, the keyboard sound is normal so hardware and drivers working fine. But if I install kb2919355 , keyboard sound is not in sync with the system sound volume. Keyboard sound is just too low.

Also same thing happens to my friend's dell venue 8 pro too.

I even try clean 8.1 with  big updates baked in iso from MSDN too, but still volume is low

There is also a thread here "change touch-keyboard key volume? (applies to virtual keyboard and touch cover) " and the op of that thread also have same problem too on surface pro

it's not a malfunction or bug, the windows 8.1.1 update included some minor changes to the keyboard sound.

and you're not the only one who doesn't like this change.

Yes, same here.

Extremely annoying, I am so used to the touch keyboard volume before.  and it was good, but now whenever I am at a place with higher ambient background noise, I can hardly hear myself typing on the touch keyboard.

And since so many of us are having the same problem specific ONLY to the touch keyboard after the Windows 8.1 update, I am pretty sure it is not a driver issue, but rather a 'feature' introduced with this update.

Please log this as a bug/feature undo wish for us, Winston M.

Mr. Winston M,

Please do not ignore our response and treat it is an isolated issue with a particular user/machine/driver.  many of us have noticed the same problem which happens ONLY to the touch keyboard.  I am sure someone has reprogrammed the volume of these touch keyboard clicks with the Windows 8.1 update KB2919355.  Please help us log this as an issues so the Windows product team will start looking into it.
