Unable to Update Windows - Error Codes 80070643 and 80071A91

Greetings...

I'm having Genuine Win 7 Home Premium x64 OS. I did a clean installation on a newly purchased machine. Since then I have been updating Windows without any problems.

I'm using MS Security Essentials from the start.

I update Windows every week or fortnightly.

This week when I try to update it gives the above mentioned errors. The Updates are as follows:

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2699988)

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2656373)

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2686831)

Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2685939)

Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2709162)

Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2709715)

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2677070)

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2699779)

Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2709630)

I went through the solutions given to others who faced similar problems, but none of the answers work with me.

Please help. Thanks.

Answer
Greetings,

I managed to find the solution to the problem in the following thread:

A post by "bilskay" had this solution:

I understand that the computer failed to manually install the update. After reviewing the case log, I found the error code 80071A91.
The error code 0x80071A91 occurs if the Windows 7 backup feature stopped working. At this time, let’s try the following steps to troubleshoot this issue.
1. Open an Administrator command prompt by clicking on the "Start" Button -> "All Programs" -> "Accessories" -> Right click on "Command Prompt" and selecting "Run as Administrator" and clicking "Allow" for the elevation prompt
2. In the command prompt, type the command below:
fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\
Prompt should return that with "The operation completed successfully"
3. Close/Exit Command Prompt window;
4. Reboot the machine
5. After reboot, Open Windows Update, reinstall the updates again.
Windows updates will now Install correctly. Hope this helps.

Kind Regards!
