Unable to open "hotmail"

Error Message:

Mail was unable to open this mailbox on the server “imap-mail.outlook.com”.
The server returned the error: The mailbox does not have enough space remaining to complete this operation.

I pay for unlimited space with Windows Live Plus so I am not running out of space.

IS THIS A SERVER ISSUE THAT OUTLOOK.COM IS CAUSING?  My imap folders will not sync and the above error is the error that Apple Mail is giving.  My Outlook 2016 isn't giving an error, there are just no messages showing up.  I do see the FOLDERS, but no emails will sync over.

I have contacted Apple who said this is a server side issue on Microsoft.  I spend an hour with Microsoft going from office department to office 365 department, to MSN department, to Outlook, to every department, and they just keep forwarding me.  One department said there was a problem with the outlook.com server, but Status.live.com says everything is fine.  Other departments said there were no server issues.

Any ideas?

1. How are you accessing your Outlook? Are you using Outlook app?

2. What is the device you are working on?

3. Did you make any changes to the account settings prior to the issue?

4. What do you  mean when you say Apple mail? Re you getting the error while using Outlook email on Apple mail?

3. No. This started a few days ago.

4. The error is:

I use IQTell as my web-based email client.  The IMAP sync stopped working on 7/24 around 4:30 pm.  I contacted IQTell and they say that the IMAP server returns "The mailbox does not have enough space remaining to complete this operation."  I pay for extra storage and have plenty of space.  I have no trouble with outlook.com, just with IMAP.

same error here. started yesterday July 28 2015. IMAP. Webmail fine

I had same problem today. I deleted the account and created new mail account using Exchange path in System Prefs. Looks like Outlook.com has opened up native exchange to non-office365 users

Same problem here since yesterday.


Mac Mail connection manager says everything is allright.

According to this link outlook.com has some problem:

Same error here - Apple Mail app on Mac OS X 10.10.4 since yesterday. 

I deleted several hundred e-mails, restarted Mail App and no change. Web interface and iPhone (connected via Exchange Active Sync to my Outlook.com account) works fine.

Did you try what I did, on the OS X system? Delete the account and create a new one this time selecting Exchange as account type instead of Other and using IMAP? "Exchange" is working great for me on both my Yosemite desktops.

I tried that unsuccessfully, but I know the servers they recommend using have changed several timess. I tried m.hotmail.com and s.outlook.com as servers and both failed.

What server are you using to make this work?

I've tried every Exchange setting I could find and have been unable to get it to work.  Can you detail the settings you used?  Thanks!
