Outlook crashes when sending email ONLY from outlook.com email address

Hi,

I have a client that I support that is having an issue where Outlook 2021 crashes when she tries to send an email ONLY from her '*** Email address is removed for privacy ***' address. The laptop in question is Lenevo workstation class laptop running Windows 10 and Office 2021. It has been working fine (for months) until yesterday. She has 3 other email addresses/accounts in the Outlook profile and they all work just fine. The other accounts are as follows: Exchange, IMAP/SMTP and IMAP/SMTP. Also, if she creates a New Email and then clicks on the From button (on the new email form) to change the "from" email address, Outlook 2021 immediately crashes. She is able to send emails from her outlook.com account via other devices no problem, including a Surface Pro w/ Outlook, iPhone w/ Outlook and via the web interface.

Things I have tried/done, multiple times on the impacted machine:

  1. Ran scanpst.exe on ALL pst files.

  2. "Repaired" the Office/Office 365 installation. Problem still occurs

  3. Disabled Norton AV. Problem still occurs.

  4. Deleted the outlook.com account/email address from her Outlook profile and readded it. Deleted the pst file as well. Problem still occurs.

  5. Created a new Outlook profile and added ONLY her outlook.com account. Problem still occurs.

  6. Started Outlook in Safe mode. Problem still occurs.

  7. Removed the Zoom Outlook plug-in and restarted outlook. Problem still occurs.

  8. Verified there were no other add-ins installed. Problem still occurs.

  9. Ran a complete Norton AV scan on the machine. Only cookies were found (and deleted). Problem still occurs.

  10. Rebooted the machine. Problem still occurs.

What else can I do/try to fix this issue?

****Update - uninstalling and reinstalling Office resolved the issue.****

Hello I’m Adeyemi and I’d be happy to help you with your question. I understand that you're experiencing an issue where Outlook 2021 crashes when sending an email from a specific outlook.com email address. You've tried several troubleshooting steps, including running scanpst.exe on all PST files, repairing the Office installation, disabling Norton AV, deleting and re-adding the outlook.com account, creating a new Outlook profile, starting Outlook in Safe mode, removing the Zoom Outlook plug-in, verifying there were no other add-ins installed, running a complete Norton AV scan on the machine, and rebooting the machine. However, these steps haven't resolved the issue. Based on the information I found, this issue might be related to the way Outlook interacts with the email server. Here are a few additional steps you can try: 1. Update Outlook: Make sure you're running the latest version of Outlook. To check for updates, go to File > Office Account > Update Options > Update Now. 2. Disable Hardware Graphics Acceleration: Some users have reported that disabling hardware graphics acceleration in Outlook can resolve issues with it crashing. To do this, go to File > Options > Advanced, and under Display, check the box for Disable hardware graphics acceleration. 3. Repair the Outlook Data File: The Outlook data file (.pst or .ost) could be corrupted. You can use the Inbox Repair tool (scanpst.exe) to diagnose and repair errors in the data file 4. Create a New Outlook Profile: A new profile can be created from the Mail option in the Control Panel. After creating the new profile, set it as the default and then add your email accounts I hope this helps. Give back to the community. I have the same problem - it started yesterday.

I have tried everything except setting up a new profile.

I can send notes from other email-ids, but not from my outlook.com id.

The system just does nothing for a short while and then crashes with no symptoms. Some times it will restart Outlook, but often it doesn't.

There are no error codes or any diagnostic information.

If I use this email-id from 'Outlook.com' everything is fine, it just appears to be a problem using an outlook.com id from withing outlook and is due to something in the past two days. I have checked and there do not appear to be any updates on my system in that timeframe.

Same issue here.

Outlook application has 2 hotmail.com (outlook.com) email accounts. In the last day I can no longer send emails, the application simply closes and (sometimes) restarts.

Created a new mail profile with a single hotmail.com account. Problem persists.

Ran online repair of Office suite. Problem persists.

Incoming email is fine.

Only affects sending/replying and also when I switch accounts in the "from" field when composing an email.

Sending and receiving from mobile app or outlook.com website is working fine.

There are at least 3 reports on this forum in the last day of the same issue.

Outlook 2311 (Build 17029.20028)

Windows 10 22H2 (OS Build 19045.3693)

Same problem for me.

Tried everything New Profile etc. etc. etc.

Installed Windows 11 over the current windows 10 - thought it might help.

Nothing Works.

Problems started on 21st Nov for no apparent reason.

Haven't tried uninstalling Office and reinstalling. Can anyone confirm that this works?

Very frustrating!!!!!!

All,

uninstalling and reinstalling Office resolves the issue. It's BS that you have to do this, but it's the only thing I found to resolve the issue.

Thanks. I really don't want to have to uninstall and re-install Outlook but will do so if that is the only solution. However, I can't find a way of just uninstalling/re-install Outlook - it seems to be a case of all Office or nothing. Is there a way of just doing this with Outlook?

Don't know why I have had to change my 'dispaly' name.
