Windows 8.1 and Windows Word

I will be buying Windows 8.1 (or will it be 8,2) next year for both myself and my wife.  At the present time we are using Windows XP – yes XP – and “Microsoft Word”

I realize that different people using Windows 8.1 will have different ideas but I would like to know what people would advise to do when when we purchase Windows 8.1 – should we also purchase Windows Word or not

There is no such thing as 'Windows Word', nor is there anything wrong with using Windows XP. It will run software that more recent operating systems baulk at.

Depending on your current Office version, you may be able to install that, but you haven't indicated which it is.

Sorry "Microsoft Word"  from Office XP Standard Version 2002  My wife's is even older verson 2000

One reason we are going to update is that Microsoft will not give any support to XP next year and because my computer is so old I can't use Broadband - I've tried - so we are still using dial-up
