On my laptop, when I am typing, when I press the enter key, the cursor does not move to the next line.  can some help resolve this issue?

Is this in Microsoft Word?

In a document where this happens, try the following: On the Format menu, click Columns. Click the preset "One" (even if it already appears to be selected) and click OK. Does that fix the problem?

If the above fixed the problem, and you are seeing it in all new, blank documents, open Normal.dot as a template and repeat the fix there. When you are done, save and close Normal.

Note that you can quickly open Normal.dot as follows: From within Word, press Alt+F11. Press Ctrl+G to activate the Immediate window. Type

NormalTemplate.OpenAsDocument

and press Enter. Normal opens in a separate window (look at the title bar) and close the Visual Basic Editor. Make the changes, save and close the template.

Word is not an email application.  Exactly what application are you using to create the letter on your email account?
Hope this helps,

Thanks again for your patience with me.   i use yahoo for my email.   if i reply to someone or create a message to them the problem occurs when i get to the end of the sentence.  When i press the enter key, the cursor does not move down to the next line to continue to type from the left side, as in any letter when you start the next line.    hopefully, this will help diagnose the problem.

thanks again, d.laru

Although it may help diagnose the problem, you are in a Microsoft Word peer-to-
peer user support group. You might be better off asking on Yahoo.
