Appendix Page Numbering Issues

Any other time, this would work; today? Not so much. I have Heading 7 (working in Word 2003) set as Appendix A. When I set the pages to be A-1, A-2, etc., it has always worked when setting the numbering to match Heading 7. Well, today, my pages are reading as B-1, B-2, etc. Don't know why it's starting at B when I have the heading set to start at A, and it's driving me crazy! I've swapped out my Heading 7 to that of my main template, but that's not working, either. Help!!!

*Update*: Finally got Heading 7 to start at A (at least that's what I see), but the page number still starts w/B-1 vs. A-1. *heavy sigh* I HATE Word!
Look for and delete any instance of Heading 7 before your appendix title.

That was the 1st thing I did. No instances anywhere else in the doc, except for App B, which is perfect.

When you select  the numbering on Heading 7, does a grey background show for all Heading 7 "numbers"? If not, then you have more than one list at that level.  You can sometimes fix the problem by clicking on each heading 7 number (in order of occurrence), right clicking on it then selecting continue from previous. Another quick method is to select all Heading 7s and reapply the style. The last multilevel list (or the last List Style) linked to the heading is in the heading settings and will be applied to all instances, in so doing make one multilevel list.

How could this have happened?   You say you set the the start at value for numbering level 7 to A.  If the cursor is on the first occurrence of a heading level in a document (or, preferably, on the first number level 1 paragraph such as Heading 1), the value shown in the dialog would be 1 (or A in this case).  Any other number means the cursor in in a later occurrence of the style or that a start value other than 1 has been set.    Changing the start at number in the middle of a list splits the list.

By the way, if you used a calculation within the page field to correct the  appendix label "number" on the page, the TOC can't see or display calculated page numbers.
