How do I transfer Works Database file into Access Database?

I have a Works database file which I would like to transfer into Access. My office version is XP. I had tried to open the file with Access, but it did not work. Is there a way of doing it?

Hi Zohrab,

Unfortunately, Access is not able to open or import Works database files.  In order to get this data into Access, you will need to open your Works database file and export it to a file format that Access can read from.  Once you have the data exported, you should then be able to import that data into Access.

The article below discusses this and has you export your Works database to a dBASE file.  If a dBASE file doesn’t work, I would recommend exporting it to a .csv file.

327147 – HOW TO: Import a Works Database into Microsoft Access 2002

 Steps:

1) Open the database by using Microsoft Works.

2) On the File menu, click Save as.

3) In the Save as type box, select Comma Delimited (*.csv), and then click OK.

Note: If *.csv isn’t an option, you could try exporting to a dbase file type.  But I would try save to a .csv file first if available.

4) Import the comma delimited text file (*.csv) that you created in step 3 into Microsoft Access.

This article discussed how to import objects into Access:
