Cannot open ordinary .docx file created with Word 2007 on PC (OpenXML Problem??) / Does Outlook (Exchange Sever) corrupt the files?

Dear all,

In my office we are using Word 2007 to create ordinary .docx files. When I email such a file to my iPad I cannot open it neither in the Mail.app preview nor in Word for iPad.

Mail.app tells me its an "Office Open XML word processing document" and Word just tells me the file is damaged. However the files opens just fine in various versions of Word for PC and Mac.

Does anyone know what is happening here? I bought Office for iPad especially to being able to open the word files I create in my office... :-(

Any help would be greatly appreciated

best regards

Wolfgang

additional noite:

If I want to open the file in OneDrive on my iPad it gives me this error: OfficeImportErrorDomain error 912

Additional info:

I ran the following test:

I took a .docx file I created on my office PC which was stored on our server and saved it locally to my PC harddrive. I then save a copy as .doc as well. Then I emailed both files to my office Outlook account AND my iCloud account (with one email).

BOTH files did NOT open from my Outlook account and BOTH files just opened fine from my iCloud account.

I then forwarded the email from my Outlook account to my iCloud account and now BOTH files did NOT open anymore.

So it seems that my Outlook account (Exchange server) corrupts the files.

Can that be?

best regards

Wolfgang

Hi,

Thank you for choosing Microsoft Community.

Try to send the same file to another user in the Office and check if he/she is able to open it.

(This is to check if the issue is specific to the account).

Since Outlook is connected to exchange server, you may also post your query in the forum below for better suggestions;

Thank you

Are outgoing emails from your Exchange server being virus scanned?  Email virus scanners are often responsible for corrupting emails and attachments.  You can often tell by a message being appended to the email saying it has been scanned.

The strange thing is:

If I email one .doc-file to two accounts (one is my Exchange Server account in the office, the other is my iClould account) with one single email and then try to access the attached .doc on my iPad via the email app (which receives emails of both accounts) the .doc-file opens just fine from my iCloud account but it does not open from my Exchange Server account (it gives me the .xml error).

So I assume that the Exchange Server software is messing up the attachments. Can that be?

best regards

Wolfgang

This problem occurred for me on my iPad when people sent documents using an old version of Word (Word 2007).  To get around it, I saved those old Word docs in the new Word format and resent to the iPad and voila!  They can be read like expected
