Hi Susan,
As per the description, looks like you are having issues with working on Word 2013 applications.
Let us follow the steps and check if it helps in resolving the issue with Word 2013.
Step 1:
Open Word in application safe and check how they work.
To do that, press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.
In the Run open box type in ‘Winword /safe’ and hit ok.
Note: There is a space between Winword and /.
If application safe mode works, try disabling the add-ins associated with Word applications and check.
To do that, do the following:
1. Open the application. Click on File and then click on options.
2. In the Options Window click on Add-ins.
3. Select Com Add-ins in the Manage list in the Add-ins section and click Go. Now uncheck the all the add-ins and click Ok.
Step 2:
Repair Office 365 installation and check if it helps resolve the issue:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-in/project-help/repair-or-remove-office-HA010357402.aspx
Step 3:
Run the Fix it from the following article to remove all traces of Office on the system.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501
Once the Fix it completes removing all traces of Office, then you may re-install Office 365 and verify the results.
You may post the Error report logged into the Windows 8 event viewer. To access event viewer on Windows 8 go to Control Panel, System and Security, Administrative Tools, and then double-click Event Viewer.
Follow the steps and let us know if that helps. If the issue persists, reply and we will be happy to help you.
