Word experienced an error trying to open the file

One of our users who is using Windows 8 and Office 365 Home and Office received an error message when trying to print a Word document from an email (Outlook).  It said, "Word experienced an error trying to open the file. Try these suggestions.

Check the file permissions for the document or drive.

Make sure there is sufficient free memory and disk space.

Open the file with the Text Recovery converter."

There is nothing wrong with the documents.  No settings have been changed on her computer. She had no trouble opening and printing documents from Outlook in the past.  When the documents are imported into our database, they will open in Word and print from there. If we save it and print from the location, it prints. Is this an Outlook issue?

Thanks for any help you can give us.

Thanks for your reply.  The user told me she can open PDF's but not Word 2013 or RTF's.  I will check out the link for Word 2103.

Will let you know.

I have the same problem, but it happens even if I save the file to my hard drive.  This is happening with both Word and Excel documents.  The problem started after I upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10.  I have Office 365.  My staff with computers upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 can open the documents.

I'm having the exact same problem on my mac.  Today I tried to open a file, saw this message, and watched as the file actually deleted itself from my hard disk!!!!   HORRORS!!! I'm working on my master's thesis, and if Word is going to do things like this, it will become unusable for me.

Microsoft -- Word has been buggy ever since I signed on to the subscription.  TERRIBLE.   Get this fixed or you loose a customer.
