Word and Outlook not responding

I  have installed Office 365 and everything works except for Word and Outlook (which of course are the two I need most!) When I open Outlook, I just get 'Not Responding' in the window frame and it shuts down. When I open Word, everything looks good at first - all my recent documents are listed - but when I try to open one, or start a new blank document, I get 'Not Responding' in the window frame and it shuts down. I even uninstalled my old Word 2010 in case that was causing a problem, but that didn't work and now I have no Word (not good for a writer!).

Can anyone help? Office 365 seemed like a fantastic idea, but now I'm not so sure! Thanks.

Answer

Hi Kate,

As I understand you are unable to work with Word and Excel application. Let me assist you with the issue:

Follow the steps mentioned and check if it helps:

Step 1: Check if Office applications are running in compatibility mode:

·         Browse to the location mentioned below:

Win7 32bit:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\Office 15

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX86\Root\Office15.

Win7 64bit:

C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office 15\Office 15

C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX86 or ClientX64\Root\Office15.

·         Right click on WINWORD.EXE< Properties< Compatibility

·         Uncheck the box Run this Program in Compatibility Mode, Make sure you also click on the option change settings for all users tab at the bottom of the same screen

·         Click on Apply and Ok.

·         Open Word and check if it works.

Note: If Word works fine then follow the above steps for Outlook application (OUTLOOK.EXE)

Step 2: Open Office applications in safe mode to check if the issue is caused by add-ins:

Refer to the link mentioned which explains how to open Office applications in safe mode. If Office applications work fine in safe mode then follow the complete article to disable the add-ins:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/why-cant-i-start-my-office-2013-application-HA104011864.aspX

Step 3: Repair Office 365 installation:

Follow the steps mentioned to repair Office 365 installation:

·         Close all the Office applications.

·         Go to Control Panel< Programs and Features.

·         In the programs list, right click on Microsoft Office 365 program and click on Repair. Choose Online Repair option to repair the Office installation.

I hope the above suggestion helps. Let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you.
