I can use Windows File Explorer to enable "Read Only" on a Word document stored on my OneDrive, then open the document in Word, change it and save it. The original read-only file has now been modified. What I'm I missing here?

Hello Jay,
Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Office Community.
Let's try the following steps to determine if this behavior is related to Office applications or OneDrive:
1) Save a Non-Office application file like Notepad
(*.txt) on OneDrive.
2) Change its attribute to Read-Only
from in Windows Explorer.
3) Now open the Notepad
file, change it, then save it and verify whether the Read-Only
attribute changes.
I look forward to your reply to assist you further.
Thank you.

Word does not display this problem on files stored off the OneDrive. On the other hand, Notepad does not display the problem with files stored on the OneDrive. Word is now recognizing Read Only attribute on files set yesterday. So there appears to be an OneDrive update lag that was either temporary or that affects Word and not NotePad.
