Why is Word 365 on the desktop so slow?

Word 365 on the desktop is almost unusable because of it's slowness.

On all documents it just takes for ever to do anything: Typing, moving the cursor etc.

Is there a reason for this?

Is there a fix?

I don't have this problem in Word 2007.

Thanks

Hello,

Let us start Word in application safe and then open the file by going to File and Open and check how it works.

To do that, press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.

In the Run open box type in ‘Winword /safe’ and hit ok.

Note: There is a space between Winword and /.

If application safe works, try the steps in the following article and check:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541

Follow the steps and let us know if that helps. If the issue persists, reply and we will be happy to help you.

Thank you

Hi

When I followed the link in your post (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541), the article only seemed to address troubleshooting for problems in Office 2007 through 2013, and not Office 365.  Is that true, and if so, the first post in this thread indicated Office 365 as the problem, is there a link we can go to for troubleshooting 365 problems such as slow keyboard response in Word 365?

Thanks!

Word (and Excel and the other Office applications on the desktop) are Office 2013. The "Office 365" name indicates the package of Office desktop, Office Online, OneDrive, and other parts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_365#Office_applications). The troubleshooting link you have is applicable.

I am having a similar problem, and when I try to use the troubleshooter, it won't even recognise that I have Office 365 installed.

I do.

Any suggestions?

If the automated troubleshooter won't work, use the manual procedures listed below it -- but I would recommend doing the third and fourth parts (Normal.dotm and the Startup items) before doing anything to the registry.

I have MS Office 365 small business premium, just installed.  Computer ran 2010 very fast, 365 wait forever to do any of programs.   Tried winword safe, and just as slow.  Notes and wordpad run fast, as do all other programs, even my audio editor which is a memory hog.

I have rebooted several times, but every time I start any of 365 programs, I have to wait.  If I type a sentence, cannot see it, but after 4 to minutes it appears on screen.

The tool doesn't work on 365 in any event apparently - claims it is a different version.

winword / safe gets no result.

All in all, 365 - not really my fave so far.

That is the same KB article that Girish mentioned in the first reply in this thread. The problem now is that the Fixit troubleshooter in the article has not been updated to recognize Windows 10. (It also may not recognize Office 2016, but I can't tell because it didn't get that far.)

When you try the command, there should be a space before the backslash, but not after -- it should be winword /safe. Alternatively, you can hold down the Ctrl key while you start the program, and it will prompt you whether to start in safe mode.
