Does the issue occurs with specific file or with all the Word documents?
Let us check if it’s an issue with the file association not set to Word 365.
Try the steps below to correct the file association and check.

Right click on document which has problem.

Select ‘Open With’ from the pop-up menu.

Click Choose default Program.
D.
Select appropriate Office application in the Programs box.

Check ‘Always use the selected program to open this kind of file’.

Click ok and try to open the file.
