Need Ignore All for Grammar in Word 2013 Spell Check

This is something that has disappeared in Word 2013, the ability to tell Word Spell Check, to ignore all for a Grammatical issue.

For example, when poppy (the flower) is used as a person's name, it becomes Poppy. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell Spell Check that this is known, and for this document at least, is correct.

Adding Poppy to the dictionary would be wrong because other uses, like poppy the flower, wrongly spelt as Poppy, would escape Spell Check's scrutiny.

Here is another example. In the Harry Potter stories, there is frequent reference to Defence Against The Dark Arts, where almost every word is capitalised. Unfortunately, Spell Check objects to this and there is no way to tell it, that this, in this document, is correct.

There are many other examples of this, and once again I am left with the thought that most of the testing for this new version of Spell Check, was done by people creating new documents, and not by editing exisiting documents.

Please, somebody in Microsoft, re-instate 'Ignore All' for Grammatical issues.

Any thoughts on this?

With a macro, you can display the old Spelling and Grammar dialog box, if that helps.

Sub SpellCheckDialogOlderWord()
On Error Resume Next
Dialogs(wdDialogToolsSpellingAndGrammar).Show
End Sub

For assistance, take a look at http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm.

Thank you for the suggestion Stefan, but what I really want is for Microsoft to add this to the new SpellCheck which has a great deal to commend itself with.

It is unfortunate the many improvements to SpellCheck are spoiled by a few unnecessary mistakes.

Seriously!  Why turn off a feature that people appreciated.  With a very large document, one does not want to have to again "ignore" items that were already checked.

Removing a feature of a prior version is just inexcusable.  Why should I have to activate a VBA macro to replace something that was in a prior version.   - Very disappointed.

Post a suggestion for Microsoft to restore this functionality. Make use of the form at http://support2.microsoft.com/common/survey.aspx?scid=sw;en-us;2222&altStyle=MFE&renderOption=OverrideDefault&showpage=1&fr=1&nofrbrand=1.

If you are reading this thread in 2017, post your suggestion(s) in the Uservoice forum at http://word.uservoice.com instead.

I have the same problem. Furthermore, Ignore Once does NOT remember the choice. If I "touch" again that word or paragraph, the blue wave underscore appears again. Spelling of Proofing of Word is really primitive and based on debatable design choices.

At the moment, there is no way to restore the functionality of older versions, unless you make use of a simple macro to display the old spellcheck dialog box.

I don't think anyone wants to go back to old versions of anything, we just want Microsoft to fix Grammar and Spellcheck.

Apart from this issue, there are many others on this and other forums. With so many frustrated users who bother to take time to comment on the different forums, you'd think someone at Microsoft would take notice...

It is not a matter of restoring a functionality. It is a matter of making it work as it should. Application programming should be user-centric, not developer-centric.

Fair enough, since the spellcheck pane is new to Word 2013, it isn't a matter of "restoring," but it isn't a matter of "fixing" either.

Go to http://word.uservoice.com and post a suggestion.
