Hello Gypzie,

Does the issue occur in a particular file or all Word documents?

You may try creating a test Word document with few Cross References and check if the same issue persists.

If the issue occurs in new documents, then you try the steps mentioned under the section ‘Manual steps to troubleshoot problems that occur when you start or use Word’ in the following article and check if it helps in resolving the issue:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541

You may also change the default printer to OneNote 2013 or Microsoft XPS Document Writer and then verify the results.

For more information on how to change the default printer on windows 8, refer to the following link:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows-8/set-change-your-default-printer

If changing the default printer works, then you may update the drivers for the problem printer.

I hope the above information helps. If you still have questions, you can always reply and I’ll be happy to assist you.

Thank you

Had the same problem, tried the Fix It troubleshooter found on the first link and the cross references doesn't reset to default in print preview anymore. :)

Just posting in case anyone else faces the same problem
