I get: "Word can't do this because a dialog box is open" when no other dialog box is open.

Every time I open a specific document (this one is password protected), I get a popup message: "Word can't do this because a dialog box is open" when no other dialog box is open." How do I get rid of this nuisance?

Thank you.

Stephen

Since the document is password protected, the dialog box is probably the one that's asking you to enter the password. If you can't see it, it's probably behind the main Word window. Try reducing the main window's size and moving it away from the center of the screen to look for the dialog box.

If you're opening the document from Windows Explorer or from a desktop shortcut, try instead opening Word first and using the File > Open (or Ctrl+O) command. That's more likely to result in the password box being in front of the main window (I believe it's a timing issue).

I've been getting this message in both 2013 and 2016 when I open a downloaded file in Chrome.  It's been going on for months.
