Even I "break link", Word pop-up error: "This document contains links that may refer to other files". HELP!

Hi,

As the post title says, Word por-up an error always I open the document: "This document contains links that may refer to other files. Do you want to update this document with the data from the linked files?"

I tried to break links, rename the document, etc, but the error is persistent. It follows a screenshot with more detail:

I would appreciate any tip to solve this problem.

Thanks,

Carlos

Answer

You could have a link that is not visible. Please follow these steps to find and edit all links:

  1. In Word, choose FILE, then Options.
  2. Choose Quick Access Toolbar.
  3. Under Choose commands from, change the dropdown to All Commands.
  4. Scroll down to Edit Links to Files and select it.
  5. Click on the Add button. OK Out.

A new icon has been added to your Quick Access Toolbar (a page with a chain). Click on it to show a list of all links in your document. You can select them and set to Manual Update, which will stop the message from displaying when you open the file, or you can break the link.
