Envelopes Won't Print from Documents in Word 365 - Goes right to Envelope Options Dialog Box

Since the beginning of time, I have typed a letter, printed that letter, then just pushed the Envelope (and labels) button I customized to the top ribbon, and in early versions, it would automatically recognize the address and put it on the envelope. In 2010, I had to highlight the address, but it still worked. Now, it sometimes works like it should from a clean reboot the first time, but subsequent times, I get a different dialog box - Envelope Options - rather than the one with the address and return address. If I hit "Ok" it reformats the document as an envelope, which is not acceptable. This is not the problem others have with their printers running blank pages. This seems to be a functional problem within Word. I am running a brand new Lenova Yoga 2 Pro with not a lot of other software on it, so I doubt it is a conflict problem. Help! Thanks.

Does the Envelope Options dialog open in front of the Envelopes and Labels dialog, or is it the only dialog that appears?

What happens if you click on the X and the top right of the dialog? or if you click on Cancel?

Hope this helps,

I have the same exact problem using Office 365.  It appear you cannot create a letter or label from within a document anymore.  I have tried all the envelope options in the command menus and get only the option screen.

I found a solution for your problem that worked for me.

Highlight the address you want to create an envelope for,

Go to Mailings | Envelopes.

You should see your envelope in the proper format.

To put that envelope button in the Quick Access Toolbar, right-click that envelopes button and hit the "Add to quick access toolbar" button.

That button will now be added to your quick access toolbar and it now works just fine!!!

At least that worked for me!!!

I have the exact same problem. Every way that I try to print an envelope leads me back to the "Envelope Options" dialog box being displayed, without any way to actually enter an address. Clicking "OK" then converts the entire document into an envelope.

Elsewhere I read a hint that maybe the default printer in Windows might be the culprit. I haven't tested this theory yet, but I know that Windows 7 has printer problems (it cannot display a complete list of actual printers attached to the computer, for example in the "Printers and Devices" option from Control Panel, nor will it allow you to delete 'Ghost' printers - ones that can be found in Word or Excel when you go to print something, but cannot be found in "Printers and Devices".

For all that Microsoft trumpeted the need to abandon XP (and for that matter all the older versions of Office), because the new versions are *better*, I find that every change is simply 3 steps forward, 2 steps backwards.

Tried it, but it didn't work for me. Mailings-Envelopes gives the exact same (incorrect) dialog box, followed by an attempt to convert the whole document to an envelope.

Still searching for a solution. I might even ask a Microsoft tech!

Try creating the following macro in the Normal.dotm template

Sub ToolsCreateEnvelope()
    Dialogs(wdDialogToolsCreateEnvelope).Show

End Sub

If you do not know how to do that, see the following page of fellow MVP Graham Mayor's website:

This is ludicrous, Doug. Why doesn't Word 365 handle it on its own?
