0x800705B4 when trying to open documents in office 2013

Hi there.  I've got a trial version of MS Office 365 Home Premium and I've been quite chuffed with it until I experienced the above error when trying to open documents (word & excel) that I created using this software.

Could anyone please help?

Hello Alvin,

1. Provide the complete error message you receive when trying to open Office 365 documents?

2. Does the same error occurs when Office 365 applications are opened?

3. Are you able to open Office files other than Word and Excel files?

Check if Office 365 suite installed is activated or not. To know if the product is activated, Open any of the Office 365 application then click on ‘File ’> ‘Account’ > check on the right side if it shows as ‘Product activated’.

If the same issue occurs even when opening Office applications then let us try to repair Office 365 installation and verify the status.

Refer to the article mentioned below on how to repair Office 365:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/repair-or-remove-office-2010-HA010357402.aspx

For further queries, reply and we would be happy to assist.

Thank you.

Hi, Nayana. I could not confirm my account status as I do not see anything related to product activation as per your instruction above.

The error messages are:

"0x800705B4: This operation returned because the timeout period expired."

"Excel cannot open the file because the file format or file extension is not valid."

I've created these documents using 365 before I started having problems. None of the documents I've created can be opened. I've also followed the repair instructions, both quick and online, but still no luck.

This issue normally might occurs with Windows Security Essentials or Windows defender in Windows 8.1.

Go to Control Panel > Windows Defender and make sure it is up-to-date.

Also go to last tab Settings> Exclude file types and add Office file types (doc, docx, xls, xlsx)> Save changes.

Thank you.

You may restart the computer in clean boot then open Office documents and check if that works. Refer to the article mentioned below on to do clean boot:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting in clean boot, ensure you restart the computer in normal mode.
