Word WILL NOT open!

I'm having problems with Microsoft Word 2013. Every time I click the shortcut, nothing happens at all. Literally nothing happens. I click it, and the little blue circle tells me it's loading, but nothing pops up. I need help.

Hi ,

Try launching  Microsoft Word 2013 in the safe mode

Type winword /safe and press Enter to start Word 2013

By running the application in the safe mode we can determine if there is any issues with the add-ins , if the application starts in safe mode disable all add-ins by navigating to File > Options > Add-Ins and restart the application normally

Please make sure your Windows is fully up-to-date and confirm the operating system version you are facing issues with .

Ok, I'm sorry. I wasn't being specific enough. I should've said more about my problem. Even winword /safe won't help me. It just won't open. I'm not having a problem with it not responding when I want to make a new document, but it won't even allow me to do that.

Oh, you could've just told me to repair it or uninstall it. The problem is, I can't. I have tried almost everything I can, except for uninstalling and reinstalling it, but that's because I need my Office product key to do it, and I can't find it. There's got to be another way.

Could it be that I'm still on Windows 8.1? It was working fine a few days ago, and now it just won't even load up.

Download the free Belarc Advisor and run it on your computer to create an inventory of the software that is installed, which will include the Product Keys for that software where applicable.

See the Article “Why can’t I start my Office 2013 application at:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/why-cant-i-start-my-office-2013-application-HA104011864.aspx

If that does not help, then you might remove all traces of the Office installation by downloading the fixit from the following article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

saving it to your computer and then running it.

Then reinstall Office by logging into
www.office.com/myaccountwith your registered email address and click Install Office.

Hope this helps,

I'm wondering if it's the update that can correct it, because I'm still on Windows 8. Do I have to update my computer to 8.1? Just wondering if it is absolutely necessary.

And, another thing, last night the Word icon just turned into a blank page with a fold in the corner. What does that mean? Please respond.

Hi Ronaldo,

Are you able to work with other Office 2013 applications?

To work with Word 2013, it is not necessary to upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. That said it is better to ensure you have all updates installed on the system.

You may try opening the Office applications from the Program Files location and verify the results. Browse to the following location (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\ClientX86\Root\Office15 or C:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office 15\ ClientX64\Root\Office15). Double click on the application icons (Winword.exe, Excel.exe, Powerpnt.exe and Onenote.exe) to open them.

If issue persists and since repair has not worked, as suggested by ‘Doug’ in his previous post, you may remove Office using the Fix it and then re-install it.

Follow the steps and let us know if that helps.

Thank you
