Word 2013 - Viewing All Markup causes 55 page document to become a 9 page document and freezes the file

The word file is saved on my local computer. It has been shared by people who have different versions of word. I've worked on countless other documents without this issue. I have had the problem like this with one other document.  

It's as if switching to All Markup hides 30 pages. 

The document may be corrupt. Try the following: Create a new, blank document. Make sure that Track Changes is turned off in the new document, and also that it is turned off in the problem document (this preserves the changes; for more, see http://shaunakelly.com/word/sharing/howtrackchangesworks.html#HowToCopyTextContainingTrackedChanges). Now copy the content of your problem document, minus the final paragraph mark (¶), into the newly created document.

To show/hide paragraph marks, as well as other nonprinting marks, click the ¶ button on the Home tab.
