Word 2013 docx document not showing the same formatting in Word 2010

I have read on so many sites that a docx document created in Word 2013 will open in Word 2010. Well, it will open but the formatting will NOT be maintained in exact form. If anyone would like to help out with this issue please reply to this discussion. I have documents that must be used by many different companies and all of them do not have Office 2013, in fact most of them either have Office 2007 or Office 2010 with just a very few now have upgraded to Office 2013.

The documents we create are very complex in nature with many drawings, graphics, tables and, text boxes as well as using 2 column formatting for textual content.

Hi swmyers

If you are sending back/forth Word 2013 documents yes you will have issues to some degree - visually but not when printed or saved as a .pdf.

The best option to use is File Options Advanced - select Layout this Document as if created in 2007 then save it from your location. Then when you send the document to and fro this option should be maintained.

Visually the layout may look slightly different due to the different versions.

Different printers provide different visual views for documents also. Again, the end result if you use the above option and just use Ctrl S to save the PRINTED document should be fine.

Each Word version has different graphic engines (non technical here) so layout will always look slightly different in different locations even if you lock in the Layout as above. You are welcome to upload a sample document without confidential information. I have all 3 Word versions and happy to look at your issue if above suggestion does not help.

Hope this is helpful.

Kind regards
