Windows update crashes Microsoft Office

Like thousands of other users, I can no longer utilize any of my Office Suite, since the update. Don't know how to fix, did a restore, etc., etc. I have documents I desperately need to access. What is the fix?

If that does not help, then you might remove all traces of the Office installation by downloading the fixit from the following article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

saving it to your computer and then running it.

Then reinstall Office by logging into
www.office.com/myaccountwith your registered email address and click Install Office.

Good Morning,

I have tried all the fixes that everyone has suggested.

I am running Office 365 E3 on Windows 8.0 Enterprise. I just updated to 8.1 Enterprise 64 bit

a few days ago. I noticed when I try to do a save as in any office application it crashes. Also just by entering the File menu crashes the applications 9 out of 10 times. The programs work fine in safe mode.

All add ins, graphic acc etc have been disabled.

This is the error I am getting on office applications.

Doug,

I tried that yesterday. I even used MR. Fixit and did a complete uninstall. Rebooted my machine and logged back into my office 365 portal and did a reinstall. Still does not work. Same symptoms.

Could it be the dll is corrupted? I did a sfc /scannow and found no problems.

Neil.

I've been having the exact same issue.  Occurred instantly after the updates were pushed to my machine.

Working has been a challenge this week!

I've done the repair as well.

We really need fix for this.

Ran the Mr. Fixit, but it didn't fix the problem.  As soon as I click on File tab, the program crashes.  Also does this for PowerPoint.  Also have run the full online repair for office with no luck.  Not sure exactly which exact Windows Update caused this.

Which version of Office are you using? The Fixit at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-us is specific to Office 365/Office 2013. After you run it, you have to reinstall the product you have, using a CD/DVD or a downloaded file. You also need a product key (or a Microsoft account linked to the installation if you are using Office 365/2013).

Good Morning,

I ran the word Mr. Fixit, did not fix the problem.

I am running office 365 so office 2013.

Word, excel, and other office programs still crash trying to do a safe as.  Works fine

in safe mode. Also, now my explorer is not working correctly. I right click on a drive letter and my explorer crashes including my desktop.

What I am going to do is install 8.1 clean and then install my software. Microsoft has caused a huge mess.

Actually I may open a ticket with them since I have free tech via chat.

Thanks for all your help.

Neil.

If you are saying that Word works fine when you run it in Safe mode, that suggests a problem with an add-in. Follow the manual steps that discuss Startup and COM add-ins in the article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541/en-us.

On the other hand, if you can't run Windows unless you start it in Safe mode, that points to something else, such as a hardware or driver problem. A clean installation should work, but it may not be necessary. Uninstalling recently updated drivers would be worth trying. If you want assistance with the troubleshooting, post in a Windows forum.
