On Surface Pro 3 with Word 2013, How do I get Ink Tools, Pen tab to stay on the ribbon all the time?

Ink Tools is extremely powerful for editing in word.  How do I get Ink Tools to stay all of the time on my Surface Pro 3?

I notice that the Erase button on the Surface Pro 3 in Word 2013 only works when Inking is "started" in the Ink Tools ribbon.

To add additional command options to the menu bar, on the upper left corner section, you will see a "down arrow".

oh, not that one. I was hoping for the slot right next to View tab on your screen shot. (if you start inking you will see a Ink Tools / Pen) show up right to the right of view.

All the Office options for the Ribbon Bar are in the program itself.  If it is not there in the top "down arrow" menu, then you have to go to "File" and "Options".  There are about 10 million different settings.

You can also try "Office Plugins" which may be available at the Office web site as well.

I have no use for the pen myself, so, haven't looked at the options for it.  I do know that anything relating to Office and its configuration is within Office itself.

I can't decide if it is useful to edit a document in red pen and then send the edits to someone else.  If they aren't using Word 2013, it might not show up right

It "might".  You could try it if you can get it to work and find somebody that has a program such as LibreOffice and have them load it to see if the edit is retained.  If it can do it, WordPerfect and others that can support import of .DOCX might be able to do it as well.

I did find that the Office for iMac (Office 2011) is a piece of junk and is NOT 100% file compatible.  I use the "importpicture" field in a few reports that I do and the document when loaded on a Mac loses all references to the embedded web links.

As a work-a-round alternative, you can try PDF files.  Convert the Word file you want to annotate changes and "Save As" PDF.  The person (student) you are sending it to will have the original Word file to work with and make corrections.

That would also be non-destructive of the original file.
