Office Save as > Contacting the server for information

Bad User Experience:

 

When I try to save a document, sometimes it takes a VERY long time to browse to a location.

 

File >> save as >> click the browse folder icon below.

 

 

Often I will get this message box for up to 10 – 15 seconds or longer!

 

I have no idea why it takes so long (whether it be OneDrive or sharepoint or something else) but it is frustrating that it takes so long even if I only want to save to my desktop.

If you select "Save to Computer by default" at File tab | Options | Save, does that improve the situation?

I was prepared to offer the thankful conclusion that the original poster did not provide, but no, that suggestion did not improve the situation.

Any more ideas?

Seems like files should save to the OneDrive folder on my computer just as quickly as they would save to any other location on the local drive. I prefer using the OneDrive folder for the backups it provides, but if every save requires 5-10 seconds it becomes frustrating.

Is saving slow even when you are saving locally (this was the case for the original poster)?

If the problem is with OneDrive only, you should ask in the OneDrive forum: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_storage?sort=lastreplydate&dir=desc&tab=Threads.
