Office 2013 will not open !! 'Something went wrong. We couldn't start your program

I have unistalled it about 5 times now, ran the office repair and it still only temporarily works. It works for the lenght of time the computer is on, but stops working once the computer is shut down and restarted!!

I opted to not link this to my microsoft account and i don't see why i should be forced to link it to a microsoft account.

So i try to open any office software and it says:

'Something went wrong

We couldn't start your program. Please try starting it again.

If it won't start, try reparing Office from programs and feeature in the control panel.

Blah Balah Blah.....

Complete waste of time and i can' access my documents!!

Why does the option to use a micrsoft product key not work???

How do you fix this?

This happens for all office software!

Hello Jimmell,

I know how difficult it is if Office application does not work as expected.

Since you have already tried reinstalling and repairing Office which did not resolve the issue permanently.

Let’s create a new windows user account using the following link and check if it resolves the issue permanently.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-user-account

I hope the above information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Hi Raju,

Can you tell me why Office 2013 will not allow the windows product key to fully activate and make office  operable on a daily basis? Particularily as this is an option when completing the installation process and confirming my purchase; it should work, but it doesn't?

Hello Jim,

Thank you for your reply.

Did you purchase a retail copy of Office 2013?

Office and Windows are two different Microsoft products.

Windows is an operating system and Office is an application suite, you cannot use Microsoft Windows product key to install Office 2013 on the computer.

You may have to purchase Office 2013 separately to install and use it on the computer.

I hope the above information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Hi

Sorry i meant to say i have a Product Key for Microsoft Office 2013

I get asked for the key, i enter the key, get the key confirmed and at the end of the day I close my computer, then when it restarts, all Office products do not work.... again!! This has been going on for a few days now.

I have to add  - the computer was Windows 8 Pro it has been downgraded to Windows 7 Pro and since the downgrade Office 2013 has become a real pain.

So the same still applies....

Can you tell me why Office 2013 will not allow the Office product key to fully activate and make office  operable on a daily basis? Particularly as this is an option when completing the installation process and confirming my purchase; it should work, but it doesn't?

The product key should work even after you changed operating systems, but you may have to re-activate Office. See http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/activate-office-2013-programs-HA102819770.aspx?CTT=1.

Hi Stefan,

This is the problem, it does activate but only for the time the computer remains on.

Once it is shut down in the evening i have to reactivate it in the morning again, after i have gone into .

Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features and used the repair Office online.

I have uninstalled the Office 2013 program 4 times now, using the uninstall program found on the microsoft website. No joy.

Hello Jim,

Thank you for your reply.

Since the repair and uninstall did not resolve the issue as a work around let’s create a new windows user account using the following link and check if activation issue gets resolved.

I hope the above information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Just to be clear: In Word 2013, if you click File tab | Account, does it say "Product Activated" on the right of the Word window? And "Product Activated" disappears if you restart the computer?

Yes 'if you click File tab | Account, it does say "Product Activated" on the right of the Word window'

However when the computer reopens and I go to a word document or excel.

I get the error 'something went wrong' and so cannot check if the validation remains. I then have to go to control panel / unistall programs and do the online repair. Which will then ask me for my product activation code...

This seems to be one of those situations when completely removing Office from your computer and reinstalling is the only solution.

Start at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501/en-us/ to get rid of Office. If you have a DVD, use it for the reinstallation; otherwise, go to http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/products/download-back-up-restore-microsoft-office-products-FX103427465.aspx?CTT=1. For click-to-run versions, you may use your account at https://office.microsoft.com/MyAccount.aspx.
