Ms Word files are automatically saved in "Read-Only" mode which is a problem when i want to edit the file

I'm using Ms Word 2013 on Windows 8. When i first save the file it is fine. I am able to open it in Edit mode but after editing the file a couple of times and saving the changes about 5 times I'm only able to open that file in "Read-Only" mode and when i try to edit then I'm prompted to save the file in another name. Please, help.

See the article "I keep getting files that I am working on locked for editing. Word only allows me to open them read-only” at:

http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/LockedFiles.htm

Hope this helps,

Is there a way to change the settings so that no file ever gets saved in the read only mode... the links tells you how to solve the problem. I would like to prevent it.

Hi,

The article provided by ‘Doug’ already has the directions on how frequently you have to perform the clean-up.

In case there is termination of the Word application, it is always better to restart the system once before you try to work with files that were opened in the Word application before the termination.

Hope this helps.

Thank you.

The article link above, says it is obsolete, and that it is being re-written.

I am just now encountering this intermittent, frustrating issue, so updated information would be most helpful.

How to get rid of left-over temporary files is also discussed in the article at http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm.
