MS word 2013: Paste is exrcuciatingly SLOW (8 seconds)

Paste is very slow in MS words. It can take 8-10 seconds.

I usually copy and paste from a website into MS words document. It could be any amount of text from a few words to the entire web page. Paste is very slow in MS words. It can take 8-10 seconds. To bypass the delay, I just paste into a notepad and then copy paste from notepad into word document.  It has been like this for MANY YEARS for me with MS word.  If I paste into NOTEPAD, it goes band, instant. I am still using the same delay-bypass for many years.

Note: When I tried to paste the same text off the webpage in a new email in Windows Live Mail, it took whopping 30 seconds. Obviously the process of converting original text from website to text suitable for MS products is faulty.

Today I got sick of it and tried to do something about it. Guess what, there is nothing I can do to fix it.

It is MS windows 8.1, MS IE explorer, MS website, MS office, MS words 2013, MS clipboard and MS productivity suite of products which take 8 sec to copy paste from MS website contents into MS words.

MS, please fix this bugs which wastes my time.

Hello N.Aggarwal,

I can understand how that must make you feel when a particular feature is not working the way it should. However let us try the following steps to resolve the issue with pasting text in Word.

The issue generally occurs while pasting HTML contents into Word or other applications such as Windows Live Mail. Pasting HTML contents into Notepad would actually convert the contents to plain text.

So, let us copy and paste the contents into Word 2013 using the Paste Special Option ‘Keep Text Only’ and verify the results.

For more information on the same, refer to the following article and check if it helps.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word-help/paste-options-HA101831692.aspx

Note: The steps in the link also applies to Word 2013.

I hope this fixes the issue. If you still have issues, you may reply and we’ll be happy to help you.

Thank you.

Hi Girish,

In MS WORDS, when pasting the text, I go into PASTE OPTIONS, and select "Keep Text Only". The pasting is instant.  It is good.

However, the following PASTE issues are still bothering me:

  1. When I try to PASTE into MS Windows Live Mail, there are no paste options. I just get PASTE, which when pressed is still very slow. I need your assistance with this issue.
  2. I have been using CTRL C for copying, followed by CTRL V for pasting. CTRL V is still very slow in MS WORDS as well as MS WINDOWS LIVE MAIL.
  3. I changed the default Paste options in MS WORDS (File tab – Options - Advanced)

Pasting within the same document: "Keep Text Only"

Pasting between documents: "Keep Text Only"

Pasting between documents when style definitions conflict: "Keep Text Only"

Pasting from other programs: "Keep Text Only"

With the above settings, when pasting in MS words, CTRL V still is very slow even though it pastes plain text. Same with PASTE button. It is very slow even though it pastes plain text.

I need your assistance with the above PASTE issues.

Thanks

Nawal

Hi Nawal,

Thank you for replying.

Let us restart the system in Windows Clean Boot and check how it works there.

Refer to the link below to know on how to start the computer in Clean Boot:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Ensure to restart the computer to normal mode (Step 3 in the above link) once the troubleshooting is complete.

Thank you.

Hi Girish,

I restarted my computer (windows 8.1) in clean boot. When it is running in clean boot, the performance of PASTE has improved. The detailed results are as follows:

MS words: PASTE OPTIONS with "Keep Text Only".
Paste performance: instant.

MS words: CTRL V or PASTE
The first time: 6 sec.
Subsequent times: 3 sec.

MS WORDS: Paste options in MS WORDS (File tab – Options - Advanced)

Pasting within the same document: "Keep Text Only"
Pasting between documents: "Keep Text Only"
Pasting between documents when style definitions conflict: "Keep Text Only"
Pasting from other programs: "Keep Text Only"

The first time: 6 sec.
Subsequent times: 3 sec.

MS Windows Live Mail: CTRL V or PASTE:
The first time: 22 sec.

Subsequent times: instant

In summary:

CLEAN BOOT HAS SOME EFFECT ON PASTE PERFORMANCE.

CTRL-V or PASTE in MS WORDS takes 3 seconds, which is down from 8-10 seconds.

CTRL-V or PASTE in MS Windows Live Mail is instant in the subsequent attempts however in the first attempt it takes a lot of time.

Best regards

Nawal

Hi Girish,

My issue is marked as "ANSWERED" without resolving the issue.

The problem still exists as of this moment.

Note: My computer ran in clean boot only to conduct the previous experiment. My computer is now operating in the normal mode with the original problem as described earlier.

Why did you mark the issue as "ANSWERED" knowing that the problem still exists and it is not solved?

You should not close the ticket unless I confirm that the problem is resolved.

I want a solution that works in normal mode of the computer in everyday life.

Best regards

Nawal

My issue is not solved yet.

After trawling through google search results on this topic, I decided to run the 'maintenance' on the computer by installing 'Advanced SystemCare' software. It has improved the performance however the issue that I described above in this ticket still exists.

The problem still exists as of today.
