MS Office 2013 Pro installed on a Vaio laptop with Windows 7 OS. When WinWord is launched, all tamplates appear on the screenb but does not work?

Laptop:  Sony VAIO   RAM:  8GB   OS:  Windows 7

Sufficient Storage - 750GB

Office 2010 worked fine.  Completely uninstalled Office 2010 before installing  Office 2013.

When you click on any template "not responding"appears.  I have not been able to resolve this even after  a complete un-install and re-install of MSOffice 2013.  Note that, PowerPoint, Excel, OutLook work fine.!!!

Latest:  When the app shows "Not Responding"  I tried to quit X (top RH corner of the app box),  it showes three options

1.  Close the program,

2.  Restart the program,

3.  Wait for the program to complete.

(a) When I chose # 1,  a new doc page opens!

(b) If I open a "old"  existing docx from a folder,  work proggram works.

I am not sure why the "Word Portal page"  is not working??? in this MS  Office 2013 Pro app?

Answer

Hello Perara,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Office Community.

We understand how you feel about the situation. We're sorry for the trouble this has caused you.

Let's try the following methods and verify the result.

Method 1

Start Word in safe mode following instructions mentioned below and verify the result.

Winword /safe
Note: There is a space between Winword and '/'.

If Word works as expected in safe mode, disable the add-ins by following steps mentioned below and determine the problem causing add-in:

a) Click on File menu, click Options, Add-ins, Go button besides Manage: Com-in Add.
b) Check if there are add-ins listed, clear the checkbox.
c) Close the Office program and restart it.
d) Enable each add-in one at a time, restart the Word, and repeat the above procedure. If the issue reappears again, it will help you to determine which add-in is causing this issue.

Method 2

Let's change the default printer driver to Microsoft XPS Document Writer or Microsoft OneNote, then start Word, then select any template and check if it works as expected.

You may refer to the following article for instructions on how to change the default printer.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IN/windows7/Change-your-default-printer

Method 3

If issue still occurs, run Fix it from the following KB article and verify whether issue re-occurs.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541

Note: Save the Fix it before running it if you're working on a 64 bit operating system. If running the Fix it doesn’t resolve this problem, follow the methods mentioned in the section
Manual steps to troubleshoot problems that occur when you start Word from the article and see if it helps.

Important: Ensure to backup registry following instructions mentioned article below before modifying/deleting any registry entries.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

Hope the above information helps. Try the suggestions and let me know the result at your earliest convenience.

Thank you.
