"Microsoft Word has Stopped working" have followed all suggestions, no resolution

This is about "Microosoft office Home & Student 2013" which I purchased when I purchased my new  Dell computer with Windows 8.1 which, by itself I have had no problems with.  MS Office downloaded with no problems, but from the first time I tried to use it have been getting the message " Microsoft Word, (excel, and all other applications from this office) has stopped working.  A problem caused this program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available".  Then the program just closes down.  (First of all no one has notified me that a solution is available)  I have been to Microsoft support, this Community, and followed all of their posted suggestions including the links to repair the problem, have uninstalled and re-installed at least six times now and was even given a new product key by the nice salespeople at Office Depot which does not solve the problem - same software same issues. I have Googled the issue and tried all of the suggestions from PC experts found there - still the same message.  Microsoft's idea of support is to charge me $39 for a call on something they created, - I should not have to pay to talk to them about a program I paid over $100 for and doesn't work.  So far I have spent three days and countless hours of my life, trying to fix this.  I really would like to have this program but am going to ask for my money back.  If I had known I wouldn't be able to speak to a support person from Microsoft should an issue like this occur, I would not have bought the program.  I very rarely take the time to write reviews, but I will be going public on this one.
I am experiencing the same problem and have gone through all of the exact same steps to solve the problems with the same results.  The Word program simply does not work.  I am very disappointed with this product and would like Microsoft to fix it.

Microsoft do NOT charge for support with installation of the software.  If someone tried to charge you, you were NOT talking to Microsoft Support.

As you purchased the computer and the software from Dell, they should get it working for you.

However, alot of problems with Office 2013 are caused by third party (non-Microsoft) applications.  This is my (expanding) list of things to try when Office 2013\365 won’t start or crashes:

Try to run word in safe mode by typing winword/safe.

If th
at
does not helpthen, in the search box type winword --> Word 2013 will be displayed --> right click on it --> Select Properties --> Go to the compatibility tab --> Check to see if there is a check mark next to compatibilty mode.

If it is checked then uncheck it and then uncheck the option of Run as Administrator if its checked.

Now run the word

It appears that there may be some hardware incompatibilities as well.  If you have the NVIDIA driver
NVWGF2UM.DLL, try renaming it as: NVWGF2UM.oldas was mentioned in:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2013_release-word/microsoft-word-has-stopped-working-when-i-close/8375b5b6-4f7e-46ed-a02b-90152ecad287#LastReply

From the File tab, select Options and then click on Advanced and then in the Display section of the dialog, check the box for Disable hardware graphics acceleration

For the error message "There was a problem sending the command to the program", use Windows Explorer to access the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15 folder and right click on WINWORD.EXE then on Properties, go to the Compatibility tab and uncheck all the boxes.  It has also been reported that the problem can be overcome by editing the registry at HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.12\shell\Open and deleting the ddeexec key.

The ddeexec can also be deleted from

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.DocumentMacroEnabled.12\shell\Open.

That fix is described at ...

http://www.dilloway.co.uk/there-was-a-problem-sending-the-command.html

It has been reported that uninstalling FastPictureView and FastPictureViewer Pro… overcomes the issue of the Minimize, Maximize, Close and Help buttons not being visible in Office 2013.

For the problem of nothing appearing when you start typing in a blank document in Word in Office 365 Home Premium, and you hear a bell sound with each keypress, but no characters appear, disable the SMARTInk add-in for an interactive whiteboard.

Doug,

Thank you for your suggestions. Will certainly look into those, tho I hate to remove programs that may be needed. No, I was not able to speak to anyone -Microsoft does not have a customer service number anywhere. All support I saw on their site had charges for communicating with them.

Thanks.

Yes, in researching this problem saw that there was quite a number of people with same issue. I am frustrated enough, and have had enough that I am inclined to take legal action if I do not get my money back.

The program does work.  What happens when you try to use it?  If you provide some information, you may get some help to overcome the problem.

I spent two and half hours on the phone today. First out of the blue, no, Office. The final result was that Word and Excel are opening in some bizarre resolution. The guy then transferred me to someone else with no intro., saying it might be a driver problem, and that he would call me back. He also didn't give me a case number so the driver guy who I could barely understand had no reference for what the first guy had done. The driver then did a remote session for another thirty minutes, said it wasn't the drivers and left me to wait for the return call from the first guy who never called back. Let me know if you are taking legal action. thinking of switching everything over to Apple. Had it with Microsoft!

If that does not help, then you might remove all traces of the Office installation by running the fixit from the following article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

and then reinstall Office by logging into
www.office.com/myaccountwith your registered email address and click Install Office.

So obviously, there is a huge problem, and I haven't had this for years since the ages of 2000 where my data suddenly disappeared. We are in 2017 and have good computers.

Will I get a refund?
