Index error - "No index entries were marked."

First time creating an index that is for an academic conference program book so it is an index of peoples names. The "mark all" button was working superbly for the first 10 pages of 291 pages. Now if I try to use "mark all" it gives me the error "No index entries were marked."

Any suggestions for making this work again?

Hi Kris,

I would need more information to assist you with the issue:

Does the issue occur with a particular file or all Word documents?

You may also provide a screen shot of the error to assist you better.

Let us create a new Word document and check the behavior.

Provide us more information to help us assist you further.

Thank you

First time using the index feature - so I'm uncertain if it can be replicated. The other part is that it worked well on the first 10 pages or so. Please let me know what else I can provide.

thanks

As far as I know, the Mark All button only finds exact matches. In the Mark Index Entry dialog box, you have "Aldarondo, Etiony" but the entry in the document is the reverse (first name and then the last name).

That's the same way I started using it. I assumed it would use the part of the document that was selected to mark to do the search. Either way, I tried doing it without reversing the name and still got the error.

Hmm, I can't reproduce the problem. If I enter a name repeatedly and select one instance, I can then use the Mark All command in the dialog box.

Have you installed the most recent Office updates?
