I Can not pull up Word 2013- error message saying WINWORD.EXE is busy

When I click on "Start", and then click on the "Word 2013" iron, I receive an error message that WINWORD.EXE is busy and can not be accessed. Since I have fond out that my documents are sent to a Cloud, it is making it more difficult to get back into a file.

I have received another error message stating that Microsoft is downloading some new files to "Word 2013"

Help.

Answer

Hi,

As I understand you are unable to open Word application.

I would need some more information on the issue:

1. Does the issue occur only with Word application?

2. Do other Office applications work fine?

Follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps:

Step 1: Stop and start or restart Microsoft Office Service:

·         Hold Windows key +R.

Copy and paste, or type the following command in the Open box, and then press Enter:

services.msc

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.

·         In the Services list, double-click Microsoft Office Service.

·         In the Windows Installer Properties dialog box, click Automatic in the Startup type list.

·         Click Start, click Apply, and then click OK.

·         Now try to open Word application and check.

Step 2: Open Word in safe mode to check if the issue is caused by add-ins:

Refer to the link mentioned below which explains how to open Word in safe mode. If Word works fine in safe mode then follow the complete article to disable the add-ins:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/support/why-cant-i-start-my-office-2013-application-HA104011864.aspX

Step 3: Repair Office 2013 program:

Refer the link mentioned below which explains how to repair Office 2013 program:

I hope the above suggestion helps. Let us know if you need any further assistance.

Thank you.
