How to reuse parts of a document in a separate document (like Mastering)
I have a document which specifies numerous tests. I have a new document which offers a selection of these tests to a customer. I want to be able to link parts of the speicifcation document into the offer document (where I offer some and not all of the
tests in the specification). Additionally, I want the content of the offer document to update as the linked document is updated. Is this possible (like with Mastering where a whole sub document is inserted into another document) where only sections of the
linked document are included in the offer document?
Select and copy the required text and then paste special > paste a link into the target document.
There is no way to ensure that the target document updates the links automatically (unless both source and target are open at the same time, which might prove a problem). You can force an update by updating fields in the target document.
You may however find http://www.gmayor.com/boilerplate_add_in.htm useful. This uses a different approach, storing the texts as separate documents (with a function to save your texts in the required
format) and providing an option to update the target document when a source document is changed.
