header and footer disappear when copy/pasting from document with section breaks

Hi,

Urgent need of help please! My organization is trying to create a global template for everyone to use.

When someone copy/pastes from a document with section breaks into the template, the template's header and footer disappears on certain pages.

Is there any way to tell the global template NOT to transfer over breaks from a copy/paste? Or is it possible to lock the header and footer fullproof to the point that copy/pasting breaks wont alter it?

Essentially need a full-proof header footer for a template that wont EVER disappear, even from pasting line breaks.
There is a huge difference between pasting line or page breaks and pasting section breaks. Among other things, in Word, line and page breaks are contained within paragraphs. On the other hand, paragraphs are contained within sections. Section formatting controls headers/footers, margins and columns. Pagination can be changed with a section break.

You can use paste special and paste only text with no formatting. This will not paste the section breaks and headers/footers. You could also do the paste section-by-section avoiding pasting the section breaks. That would preserve formatting not contained in the section break.

Otherwise, you can go into the document after you paste and delete the section breaks.

The rules that apply to section formatting in Word are discussed in the article at http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/workwithsections.htm.
